'The true spectrum': Victoria's Secret replaces Angels with Megan Rapinoe, Priyanka Chopra
Victoria's Secret said the new ambassadors were selected to create "revolutionary" lingerie collections and bring awareness to women's causes.

Every since I was a kid, Victoria Secret used probably the highest paid most beautiful models in the world to showcase their fantasy panties. Now in 2021 they are getting rid of those models, and replacing them with other models...but significantly less attractive (subjectively) ones.
Including Megan Rapinoe, the women's league soccer player who went to congress to demand that the women's soccer team and men's national league team get paid the same amount. For those of you who didn't see this, the men's league does not get paid salaries, instead they get a "bonus" for wins, ties, and losses the amount in which varies depending. The Women's team gets a salary, approx 120k/year but they do not get bonuses. Megan took the case to court and the court found out that the men get paid only about 88K/year which varies slightly depending on win/loss records. So Megan dropped the case when the court offered to force the women's team to lose a % of the salary to give to the men so that pay would be equal.

Seems like a great choice for a replacement.
To be fair they also hired Priyanka Chopra who is beautiful and sort of fits the "Angels" brand of model that the company has had for decades anyway. So I'm not sure why they would hire her but also fired their other models. Everything about this "rebranding" seems a little strange.
The company is claiming that they want to get away from what Men want and devote the company and the branding to what women want. Which makes sense I suppose. Except for the fact that I don't think women just want to wear sexy undergarments just because. I don't think many women are wearing sexy shit under there work uniforms just for the sake of it. Victoria Secret items might be worn for women, but those items are more for their partners (i would argue) than the woman wearing them.
Now if the company is going to also make new items with less emphasis on sex and more on just practical comfort for women, then okay. Sounds good to me actually, but that might end up being a hard transition for the brand and I wonder how this will ultimately impact their business model (no pun intended).
It also remains to be seen as to whether or not the company is just going to use these new women to still model in skimpy underwear. I read that they've also hired some plus sizes girls and a transwoman for modeling as well. But i could not find any information on who exactly those people are. Torrid already is a brand that markets to the larger woman so there is already competition in that space and I don't have a problem with VS trying to compete on that front. I just don't understand the reasoning behind wiping the slate completely clean. Surely they could have kept the Angels and also hired the LBGT women on top of that (Megan I believe is a member of that group as well).
Why not just hire them as extra marketing or as a brand new product line from the company on top of what they've already become successful with? Surely both sides could exist right?
