Is this is a bit like World of Tanks / World of Warships, where the fantasy tanks/ships are "based on a historical design" that turns out to be nothing but a list of suggested features some designer wrote down on the back of a beermat, and where the in-game model doesn't even have the same armour and weaponry as the "historical" source?
Well, historically, there would be only a couple of tanks/warships that would be viable for pvp gameplay.

In real life, there were resources reasons why something like the USS Texas was at Normandy, not its viability as an actual warship

Uhrm, well no, not really. It's a fairly common Norwegian, Swedish and Danish name. You might as well be arguing that someone called Alex must be based on a specific historical Alex, based on the name alone.
Sure total co-incidence, you know for many media properties it's standard to google names of characters to check such things right so they can change them etc....

Ohhh of course, so your issue is historical accuracy.

...you realise you're watching a fictional drama, right? Do you take equal issue with all the other historical inaccuracy?

Give me a break. We both know full well you're just whining because someone of a minority is prominent in a show. That's all there is to this.
Oh so you're playing the "It's fictionalised so it doesn't matter". Ok why don't they fly and shoot lasers from their eyes too? No need to have it be realistic right?

Also no I won't give you a break by playing into your Strawman.
One of my favourite recent shows was Killjoys and despite certain "progressives" on the internet recently deciding she doesn't **** because she's engaged to white guy, I'm pretty sure to most sane people Hanna John-Kamen counts as a black woman.

I'm really enjoying Stargirl and Yolanda is Hispanic and Beth is Black

I enjoyed The Magicians and Julie wasn't White nor was Penny nor was Kady nor was Margo.

I get it, you have no actual argument so are having to resort to ad hominem to try and frame it as "you hate POC" rather than realising how it's kind of messed up that POC are given basically hand me down roles for the sake of token inclusion rather than having roles written for them that are roles not token characters designed to own people are be Mary Sue levels of competent.

It's why Killjoys worked as a series and Vagrant Queen failed

That's also in part due to the fact they're based on official information which has been released which will differ from actual designs which are kept top secret especially for stuff still in active use. Also probably some game balance / scaling of stuff to make more vehicles viable to play so thick tough armour of the day vs thick tough armour now being levelled out to be roughly the same at a guess.

That show's casting was about as vanilla as it gets, boring and flavorless, like the show itself.

Uhura and Janeway are evil mmmkay.
Well there is a fair contingent who do think Janeway is evil, but its not because she has a vagina. Jesus they wasted Kate Mulgrew.

You misspelled 'Troi'

Eh, it got kind of annoying they kept looking for excuses to get T'Pol in her underwear, and I recall Hoshi's opposition - such as it is - coming from all her Mirror Universe stuff where she started out as the Captain's woman and as such was....well....The Mirror Universe concept should have been just consigned to the Gene Roddenberry Erotic Fetish list and been promptly forgotten for future Trek but NOPE, we kept bringing that shit back.

Like Star Trek is not a stranger to lovely ladies by any means - there's a scene somewhere in Next Gen that has Beverly and Deanna doing aerobics and Christ it was tacky.

One can accept a certain amount of fantasy. The Maus was a colossally stupid idea for a tank on any number of levels, but at least real-life development got to the stage of a prototype. Or the US heavies (T-29 to T-34), that reached some level of testing. For some tanks, there are at least detailed designs that suggest someone had put a lot of thought and effort into them as viable possibilities. But there are a load of tanks in there you just need to look at and think "What the hell?" Little more than fanciful requisition requests from staff officers that had never passed scrutiny from an engineer as to their viability. And that's without considering the way many tanks are "up-gunned" with weaponry they couldn't even fit.

You can cast whoever you want as a viking, it's cool. It doesn't have to be historically accurate. That being said, if they write the character's personality as a sassy African American, it's going to be a joke.

Sort of... except Vikings never even claimed that Jarl Haakon was based on a historical figure. Most of the characters in the show are purely fictional. Lots of them share first names with historical Norsemen.

Sure total co-incidence, you know for many media properties it's standard to google names of characters to check such things right so they can change them etc....
...Why would they change the name if a historical figure happened to have the same first name? It's a common name. Should fictional characters not have first names that historical figures do?

"Oh yeah, it's total coincidence that the protagonist of 'You' is called 'Joe', which is the same name as Joe Rogan. He's obviously based on him! Showrunners would have googled the name 'Joe' first in case someone shared it!"

Lols.

Oh so you're playing the "It's fictionalised so it doesn't matter". Ok why don't they fly and shoot lasers from their eyes too? No need to have it be realistic right?
Uhrm... because that obviously doesn't fit the setting or tone.

Do you think a fictional character sharing the same (common) first name as someone else is just as unlikely as 10th-Century Norsemen shooting lasers from their eyes?

Also no I won't give you a break by playing into your Strawman.

Yeh and if Joe were also a podcast host and former fighting hexagon announcer..........

Well it's a fictional setting and a character who would have been a minority in a society why no go with it. They're not going with a historical setting or that realistic a tone.......

"I like a show w/ a black woman in it, so my arguments cannot be at fault on this issue".
"Because you don't like the idea of this one show with this one character you clearly hate all Black women and want them all out of the industry and to never be shown on screen ever you awful person you"

Two can play at bullshit interpretations of what the other has said. So want to try presenting an actual counter argument rather than desperately clinging to the strawman you've decided to create?

You're equating a black person being a Viking with... Vikings flying and shooting lasers? Do you find one as difficult to believe as the other? I think that says more about you than anything else.

"Because you don't like the idea of this one show with this one character you clearly hate all Black women and want them all out of the industry and to never be shown on screen ever you awful person you"
It's not "this one character", though, is it? You're quite frequently whining about minority characters in shows/games/what-have-you.

More Woke world madness

TikTok is convinced White people used to eat Black people as a special delicacy
Firstly, do you see absolutely nothing wrong with a Twitter user saying that "Blacks" are doing something, based on one fucking tweet?

Secondly, Vincent Woodard was not a "homosexual sadism fetishist", that's just a complete and utter lie as far as I can tell. He was a professor of English.

Thirdly, uhrm... slave owners aboard ships actually did kill and cannibalise slaves on occasion. There are a few documented incidents of such happening. The book is an investigation of that phenomenon.

Oh so we're going to just pull the "Oh but you can't go that far from the source material just because the one thing is so statistically improbable it may as well have been impossible you can't do [other thing that's impossible]". Here's a better idea, go full fantasy, norse mythical lands, frost giant full mysticism?

Generally when they seem out of place or very poorly done and & done to score obvious virtue points.

I mean excuse me if I object to the Black woman Nazi supporter in Alex Rider season 1 as a bit fucking stupid especially in a series that decided to make Alex's Nanny / Housekeeper a Black woman but his agency handler who is portrayed as super competent and damn good at her job a a white woman in a change from the source material........Or you know objecting to how poorly handled Yaz was by Chibnall in Doctor Who and how they wasted her potential, guess I shouldn't be "whinning" about that right?

Firstly, do you see absolutely nothing wrong with a Twitter user saying that "Blacks" are doing something, based on one fucking tweet?
Firstly that 2 different tiktoks not 1 secondly it's fucking stupid but apparently being passed round, some of the stupid shit passed round about how evil white people are. Other examples out there (and this is why it's funny events in Woke world) people claiming black people used to have wings and could fly before White people subjugated them and bred out their ability to fly. Or the time some-one claimed black people used to have superhuman powers and could run 500 MPH but white peoples food robbed them of that ability.

Secondly, Vincent Woodard was not a "homosexual sadism fetishist", that's just a complete and utter lie as far as I can tell. He was a professor of English.
Doesn't mean he couldn't be both.

Thirdly, uhrm... slave owners aboard ships actually did kill and cannibalise slaves on occasion. There are a few documented incidents of such happening. The book is an investigation of that phenomenon.
From wikipedia

The book explores the homoeroticism of both literal and figurative acts of human cannibalism that occurred during slavery in the United States.
Also for the claims of slave owners killing and cannibalising their cargo, Huge CITATION NEEDED

But it's not practically impossible. It's many, many, many times more likely than flying and shooting lasers. There's documented evidence of instances.

You just find it very hard to imagine, because you have a specific image of what Nordic history is like, and you're unwilling to change it in light of new information.

Oh, you can make complaints about storyline or presentation all you like, if you're consistent and it doesn't come across as grievance politics.

Sadly, you're not, and it does. Because you basically only have an issue when its a minority, and then you'll moan and gripe it into oblivion.

Uhrm... except cannibalism of black people did literally happen.

Doesn't mean he couldn't be both.
True! But there's not a shred of evidence that he was, it's just some Twitter knob hurling insults. And you swallowed it, because if some drivel you see online fits your narrative, you'll believe it & repost it unquestioningly.
