Seems a really meh year in gaming. But for years, I've enjoyed Yahtzee's end of year piece.

The really funny thing is that I even posted there. I just totally forgot it was a thing. Looks like it hasn't been updated in months so it might as well not be there since I think only admins can post new topics.

Psychonauts #1 best game of 2021? He seemed so down on it when he reviewed it. "Fiddly combat, annoying platforming, comedy has lost its edge, can't transcend the first game...". Only good thing he had to say about it was that he was satisfied the story was finally concluded even if he didn't particularly like the story.

He did say the year was pretty underwhelming.

Though I wonder how much of this problem can be ascribed to the continuing use of Disqus for comments on articles rather than forum integration.

I also found that surprising, but remember, he also was a lot more negative on Portal 2 than Portal and Portal 2 was his game of the year that year. Another series with a comedic tone.

ZP consistently pulls in the most comments on the Escapist site. Pretty much the only time I ever used my Disqus account.

OT: 2021 might as well have not existed in terms of gaming for me. The one thing that I was even remotely interested in, Battlefield 2042, spontaneously combusted. Pretty much all I've done this year is play old games and point and laugh whenever there's news of publishers and developers being stupid. So in a way, 2021 was the blandest game of 2021.

I use Disqus. Though this does highlight a problem: if one wishes to comment on a recently released ZP video one can do so via:

1. Disqus.
2. YouTube comments.
3. The Escapist discord.
4. The Escapist forums.

Four different channels for discussing the same material. There are bound to be some repeat comments.
