I highly recommend this video. There are couple of things I disagree with Shadows on:
  • The more obvious call backs to Resident Evil don't hurt the game, nor are they distracting. He is more so referring to the white, sterile labs you come across in late game. They are there for a reason. Most people didn't have a problem, and a majority of RE fans loved it.
  • Mobius being too much like Umrbella, I somewhat not on the same page. Yes, they're a copy, but not one-to-one. I am glad the Evil Within 2 took the option of killing all of Mobius via exploding microchip in brain. Takes care of all of the loose ends, and puts the corporate conspiracy arc to rest. EW2 has major balls for doing that, and is one up over RE.
  • If they put alot of side quests in later chapters, it would have grinded the pacing to a halt and intererupted the main goal. Plus, it makes sesnse their are less side quest the further you go. STEM is breaking down, Sebastian is getting closer to his goal, and finally, nearly everyone is dead by that point in Union anyway. It's no different than what's been done in past RE titles. You see a few or encounter a few sruvivors, and the further you go, the less you see of them. He kinda agrees, but makes me wonder why even bothered complaining in the first place. The other thing he seems to forget is that Sebastian still has his personal trauma quests, and there's plenty of hidden Easter eggs that fill the void.
  • I consider Evil Within 2 better than Resident Evil 7.

Yep. That's it, call out the game industry for its negative aspects of how minorities or blacks don't sell games. I am glad other people are showing how full of crap the industry really is. I'm probably not going to be playing this game, but I wish the best of luck to it. We definitely need some variety.

You'd think the fact that Black Panther blew the doors off of movie theaters would educate these morons as to how non-white characters absolutely can make bank, but racists gonna racism.

Ball’s in big publishers’ collective court. Especially Sony’s (Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, etc.) with upcoming new IPs. They already have shown their diversity in movies, so it’s high time to carry it over to games. But that still doesn’t let other AAA empires off the hook by any means. Indie studios should feel free to make whatever starting whoever they want as well. If they’re following their passion it should show with the characters they feel passionate about too.

It's that weird "Women/Minorities don't sell" line they love to trot out so they can push them off to the side or maybe give them co-billing with a male/white character, except there are numerous examples of having a not white/dude/white-dude in a starring role that do well. Make good games, write good characters and don't limit to white/dude/white dude characters.

Ubisoft is terrible about this, despite their diversity slogan they slap in front of the AC games. They've repeatedly sidelined female characters or at best, had a selectable male/female version of the main character. They had two games with black leads and they were basically DLC until Origins and while Bayek was great, they pushed Aya off to the side for him, despite that she was supposed to be the main character or at least have a much bigger role.

Most of the big Characters in Far Cry 6 are women, and people of color. In fact.....I don't think that game has a single white guy in it. At best it's a few very light skinned cubans.

I think this claim that there aren't enough women, or minorities in games is exaggerated because people tend to brush off the characters and the games that feature them.

Even Brawlman says that the minority thing is a problem, and that the industry is claiming that the games don't sell. So this developer comes out about creating more Characters of color and Brawlman states outright he isn't interested, which kind of proves the industry's point. I'm not saying that anyone should buy a game just because it stars a PoC or whatever. It's just deigenious to ignore and push aside all the games that have had these characters to begin with, then claim that "there ain't enough". Why would there be more, if people ignore the characters that already exist?

  1. You don't speak for me. Just because I'm not invested doesn't mean I'll won't keep looking at it. I'll keep an eye on the project. If it interests me enough, I'll buy it. Me not buying doesn't prove a damn thing. This still is a problem with the industry whether you want to see it or not.
  2. While there has been more, it's usually from the Indie side or smaller side. Only some of it is from AAA side. Sony is definitely trying, but Ubisoft, EA, and Activision don't even pretend to try anymore.
  3. I'm not buying from Ubisoft because of company is racist and sexist. End of story.
  4. Far Cry 6 is the exception and not the rule. Also, it's Ubisoft so they can get fucked. The same company that has no problem calling a black man a monkey within the office. So they can all get kicked in the groin for all I care. A million times with a barbed wire boot.
  5. This relates to the first one, don't ever speak for other races, minorities, or women. You always keep doing this. Will you please stop it! You don't know everything about us or them, and you sure as hell don't speak for any of us. So please get the fuck off that crap. I don't want to hear you crying or whining about it. I honestly don't care.
  6. If you don't like the game, don't buy it and move the hell on. Fine by me.

Maybe too often the games that do feature them kinda suck, or simply aren’t good enough to take seriously (read: FC6, or most of Ubisoft’s catalog for that matter).

The way I see it is, it doesn’t matter if their game has a non white person lead in it. So long as the culture of the company is toxic, racist and sexist then this representation issue won’t change.

Fine, not liking Ubisoft is fine, but their games still exist and the characters featured within still count. Boycotting them is fine and totally up to you.

Do they suck though? Odyssey was good, FC6 was fine and was only disappointing because it was another Far Cry game. But if you look at Ubisoft's recent catalog, they've been featuring pretty widely diverse casts. Didn't Watch Dogs 2 star a black guy?

What we can say for sure is that the games don't suck because they feature a diverse cast. They suck because Ubisoft's formula is burnt out. I wouldn't even go as far as saying that UBisoft games are bad really, because they aren't bad, they just aren't interesting anymore.

Basically why I said “kinda” suck. They could do a lot better, but they’d rather keep churning out the same mediocrity. They may still value single player content and design, but it’s always backloaded with MTX’s and now the latest scourge of industry, NFT’s.

Speaking of,

Perfect example of how these pushers are preying on the gullibility of consumerism idiocy en masse -
“Personally, I'm new to the NFTs world and when I saw that I could earn a free NFT on a game that I really love,” said Guiot, “I genuinely thought it was a good introduction to NFTs.”

Um, sorry dude but you’re not “earning” anything if it’s free, and is it really “free”? This bullshit is costing someone something somewhere.
