North Texas here. Our registered sex offender neighbor asked us to let his dogs out since he's at the hospital with his wife. Never been in their house before, felt like walking into a crime scene. We let the dogs out, and promptly left. Watching the forecast, and it's supposed to drop by over 20 degrees in the next hour or so, and despite him telling us to just leave the dogs out, he'd let them in when he gets home (without knowing when that's going to be,) we suffered their home again to let the dogs back in after about an hour. Sex offenses I can't attest to, but I refuse to be an accessory to animal cruelty.

Here's how it is in Michigan.

Winter storm warnings are posted and go into effect at 7 p.m. this evening and run through Saturday morning at 4 a.m.

So the main event is tonight and Friday with light rain and or snow breaking out this afternoon.

Any snow that falls this afternoon will be melting as temperatures don't plummet until tonight. They'll fade fast though, potentially freezing the moisture on the roads.

Now we'll get to snow.

A general 3-6 inches will fit for many, though our southern communities may get a bit less and north of a line from Ann Arbor to Port Huron may squeeze out a bit more. Even low-end snow totals will be blowing around in the intense winds that will be whipping.

Most of that snow falls tonight/tomorrow, but Saturday we'll still have lake effect showers to contend with. They're smaller, so their impacts are more hit-and-miss, but intense snow and whiteout conditions where they do set up.

The wind that's drawing moisture off of Lake Michigan will be more than noticeable.

Fifty mph wind gusts will be possible Friday, which may lead to sporadic power outages in pockets. At this point it doesn't look like they will be widespread, but where they do occur, it'll be tough as temperatures bottom out in the single digits this weekend and have a tough time getting out of the teens.

Today was the day to do your shopping where I'm at. Everyone was so scured of the storm all the stores were empty, got Costco gas without waiting, got front row parking at the Whole Foods. People were annoying driving so slow when you could still see the road. The roads were fine and did my standard 5 over the limit like normal.

I've found that up here in the Northeast, you get two types of people: The "seen it all, no big deal" type, and the "I have no long-term memory, how do I car snow" type.
Here in the Pacific Northwest, it's the same but with rain. We only have it for like 9 months of the year but there's a fair number of drivers who somehow forget what it is if they haven't seen it for more then a week.

I just made it into work. Though I don't start till another 45 minutes. The roads aren't too bad, but the wind is high and it did snow a little bit. Like I mentioned before yesterday, it did rain into the early morning and then we had some snow. We got salt trucks out there now, so hopefully they'll keep to it. The moment I get home, my entire evening is going to be playing Evil West.
