They're not ideological equals, they are political equals in how hard they pull a direction. There are thousands of variations of left and right, and a real question of what qualifies as "further left" in a simplified binary system: the site with a light bias in their reporting from an extremely left position or the frankly dishonest site with intensely concentrated bias against the right from a center-left position?

Centrism/left wing is not the right thing to debate. Dem lost because inflation was high and people think that automatically means economy is going to shit (ironically price going down is a better sign that economy is going to shit). What the dem need is to reorient themselves toward a more political mindset, and start taking decision knowing that this will have wide ramification down the line. Turn out, handing out a tons of free money (and loan that were easily forgiven) was a mistake since it led to higher inflation, they should have voted that down. There's a millions things they should have done with a mind more focused on the election.

The reason the GOP were hammering the dem on identity stuff is because the dem vacated the economy field and just let the rep win it (even though dem are always better for economy).

There's probably several conservatives that are part of the Heritage Foundation that would be up for such appointments regardless if they are or aren't apart of the foundation, it's not shocking Trump or any republican president would hire some of them. I bet if you look at past republican presidents, you can find similar appointments. Moreover, Project 2025 is not some new document, it's been around for 40 years. You're also forgetting that much of what the left has claimed Project 2025 will do just isn't true. The fear over this is beyond ridiculous.
