It's here. Bout time too, fanboy desperation was getting awkward.

Anyway, not much to go on:
  • Bit larger screen/system
  • Joycons now lock magnetically?
  • Physical backcomp with Switch games (I'm guessing the exceptions are maybe games that require a peripheral like Ring Fit or Nintedo Labo)
  • New Mario Kart?
More info in a Direct on April 2nd.

All agreed to hear. I won't be getting this immediately, but I'll give it some time down the line.

Well, with no release date and no info on any launch titles it's basically just an announcement of an announcement. Not terribly exciting.

You forgot the buttons! It's got buttons dude!

Also the joycons connect via a little chip connector not magnets. Magnets behind a screen seem like a bad idea.

Don't like Mario Kart anymore. Tracks all too short, lame physics and still no way to checkmark all the items that you want on the maps. DLC also had far too many real world cities. I don't want my world in Mario.

I'm not hugely convinced on the new attachment method for the Joycons BUT if the current Pro Controller is compatible I'm not going to care because I don't use the Joycons cos I never take my switch anywhere unless I'm going to be gone for longer than 24 hours.

Not sure how hardcore portable stans feel about it though.

This seems like the least creative Nintendo console to date. Where's the stupid name? Why not call it the "New Switch" or something like that. Beyond that, just another Switch but with better specs is pretty boring.

There's nothing wrong with 'like the last one but better'.
And given the success of the Switch and the niche it filled I think that's fine. For once it couldn't hurt to have "like the last one but better" from a Nintendo console, just this one time. I'm sure it'll have a bit more to it than what we see as well. This is just a first look, not a full system spec and feature announcement

No, it's just uncreative and is another step to Nintendo falling in line with the rest of the games industry, like they did with dlc and online subscriptions. But I'm not worried, I'm sure Nintendo will innovate plenty by raising the price of games again and never letting them drop.

And you are worrying too much. DLC and subscription aside. I pretty much pay for neither. Mainly the subscription. Fuck that shit.

I find the decision to mess with the colors odd. The red highlight for the joystick looks really weird to me. Yes, that is a worthless nitpick, because I don't know anything about the original Switch and this video told me nothing about the new Switch.

Another thought: I highly doubt this will have the kind of power needed to actually have third party games again, but even if it did, I don't trust that games would be optimized enough to be enjoyable. Even if the Switch 2 is the biggest console of this generation, I don't think devs will want to prioritize porting to it for development.

Okay, so what kind of innovative step were you hoping for?
