Here's hoping that the AI bubble is well and truly popped long before then.
It is not the first of such ridiculous projections and plannings in the AI space. Such growth will never happen.

We have long "planned"/"projected" AI infrastructure expansion costing more than there is money in the whole world, noot to speak about building capacity, if we take the various statements together. It is blindly obbvious that this will never materialise.

Amazon Prime is lazy and tries to use AI English Dubbing for Banana Fish. It goes horrible for Amazon Prime, and no one likes it.

From the "don't do that to me, don't give me hope" department: ChatGPT briefly went down worldwide today.

Apparently it came back online at around 3PM EST but is still running slowly. Can I hope that it's a case of terminal lucidity?

From my perspective as a Higher Education worker, we are in a difficult position.

We are expected to train students for the future. AI may be a big part of the future so we need to train them for it, don't we? A lot of people have bought into the hype, so we get hammered from all sorts of quarters if we're not seen to embrace what they think is the future. I have ventured negative opinions, and I do not think a lot of higher ranked people have appreciated it. They want the positives about how it's going to revolutionise their product.

We've never been trained in AI. My workload is full already. I can (and do) learn stuff where I can, but on AI they want me and those like me to teach expertise we haven't learnt. Where's my CPD (there isn't any)? Can I take some weeks off to properly look at it (no)? Aside from my bitty experimentation I've set some staff to work on it and then tell everyone else when they find out, what else can I do? Look, it's going to take time. There's going to be plenty of experimentation, and things will go wrong. But I am hopeful eventually - to at least some extent - higher education will get there.

Although a lot of universities are under commercial pressures. There are already reports of AI-heavy courses, like, lots of material that appears to be AI generated. Potentially of course expertise is shrunk - like instead of 5 subject experts making material, you have 1 subject expert making / reviewing AI material. There are likely to be sacrifices in quality. Or that AI is simply going to make people more stupid. Lots of people who should know better ARE just skipping to the AI summary even though it may be wrong.

So OpenAI got VC firms, and likely Microsoft to buy 40% fo the total DDR5 latest RAM in the World. And they still aren't even profitable.

I mean, I am still going to put 1K into OpenAI if they go public, but what happens if they aren't profitable in the long run? Will the world go into recession or a depression?

They won't ever be profitable.

Even if they manage to make the core business viable (and that is a big if) they have so much debt now that any profits won't pay the interest. They won't be able to compete with any copycats or latecomers who don't have issues of the same degree. And all their datacenter investments might have to be written off before they make their ideas work because all those chips have a very limited lifetime.

Putting money in OpenAI is just burning money. Unless the US government decides to play backstop for all those debts which was thrown around as an idea some time ago. Then taxpayers can hold the bag while investors might see some profit.

Sure, but the idea will be to let the company crash, wipe out the debt (and the investors in the process), and sell out to a sugar daddy who can rescue the remnants.

This is basically what happened with the cable firms in the UK. They were never going to recoup their losses as laying cable is expensive: they consolidated into one firm, which went bust and wiped out the shareholders, and then was rebooted (Virgin Media, which is still going).

And let's bear in mind that Amazon, MS, Apple etc. are still worth a massive fortune with tons of profits and oodles in the bank. Even though they would be in deeply straightened circumstances themselves in the event of a tech crash, they would still be in prime position to pick up crashed AI firms on the cheap. (And geez but Meta could really do with buying up an AI firm, because sure as shit except Facebook they've failed to deliver any other major product).

Oh good, Glenn Beck has created an AI George Washington. You will be shocked to learn that the AI George Washington created by Glenn Beck sounds exactly like what would happen if Glenn Beck built an AI George Washington to sound exactly like Glenn Beck.

The only thing that surprises me is that he didn't create an AI Jesus (who would be white with blue eyes, of course) to tell us how bad it is to care about the poor and the sick.

Glenn is Mormon, I believe. Though not much different on surface level and at the political stage, their approach to jesus is more like an MLM where anyone can be jesus if they put the work in (and donate 10% of all their income to the church)

If you're a good little mormon after you die you get a whole planet all to yourself to rule over as a god.

But not if you're a woman. If you're a woman you have to go to your husband's planet and get ruled over by him for eternity.

And should be thankful their husbands don't replace them on that planet with a younger woman in her 20s.

Disney offering up its ip portfolio to be sloppified, and paying for the privilege.

Time to flood the internet with Disney gangbang porn. Imagine that one image with the petite blonde girl on the couch and the half dozen black dudes, but it's Elsa and a bunch of massive-schlonged Goofys.
