I just watched The Goonies with my mother and niece, it's extremely overrated. I was the only one who sat through the entire movie, my mother checked out after an hour and a half of children screaming non-stop. Finding the treasure was kind of fun, but man does the movie not earn any of the emotional payoffs in its ending. I didn't completely hate it, but I really don't understand how everyone considers this a masterpiece.
I own Goonies because it came in a 3-pack with Gremlins and Gremlins 2. I watched it for the 1st time when I bought the pack maybe like 5 years back and it was OK at best.

I was probably eight years old when I first saw The Goonies, so it’s more of a nostalgia thing now because its flaws are so blatantly obvious it’s almost a parody of itself. Still retains a certain cheesy kind of charm though.

I read the novelisation of the movie before I watched it, and I think its a story that works better that way. Like the movie isn't bad, but the book lets your imagination do a bit more heavy lifting with how things like pirate ship and stuff look. But you know, as a kids adventure movie, I've seen much worse.

Also I'm glad I only ever watched season one of One Punch Man. I thought it was phenomenal, but never got around to watching season 2. Looking up how bad everybody thinks season 2 and 3 are makes me feel like I dodged a bullet.
Season 2 is okay, but my motivation to continue the series dropped after it. I don't even have the Season 1 box set anymore. I sold it, and I am still not looking back.

Might not be a hot take online, I dunno never bothered looking, but it is cathartic to finally see someone else get as annoyed about the scary movie franchise "humour" as my self surrounded by normies who lapped up each and every one, even weed couldn't make them bearable ,In fact it just made them worse cos of overfocusing on the million better ways to do any lazy joke/reference. Don't apologise Korey damnit lol!

It's kinda more personal too cos it reminds me specifically of a moment in college with a mate trying to do our own absolute shite parodies of current movies filming on his laptop, giggling uncontrollably at nothing, the humour is that unique cringe that hits worse cos it's seeing something dumb you've years long ashamed of doing being done by someone of similar older age to you now who forgone any life growth journeys of improvement and in fact appears to be heavily rewarded for it, allowing a confidence far greater than you would ever want to imagine ,perpetuating the dark mirror's mocking jeers deep into the psychological foundations of repressed childhood embarrassment. And people paid for this?? For a decade of sequels??

These people don't love comedy, they love their mates. So their mates doing shit makes them laugh and this is what we get instead.

Some people may have gotten jaded after trump, but that first movie was my radicalisation moment about the tastes and minds of the general population (and almost all my friends too btw) glad to see everyone finally catch up lol!

I stopped caring about Scary Movie after the second film. I did see the third film later via downloading it, and thought it was okay, but I knew I did not need it anymore. Nothing against the Waynes, but this is a franchise that really did not need another entry. More power to those who enjoy these films, but I am going to skip out.

Honestly, the people who mock anime only fans, or not knowing specific details they never read the manga originals (if it is an adaption of those first) need to screw off. I get it, but at the same time, not everyone is going go through the effort of reading the manga. Especially if they have limited time or money. If details get lost or are only added in after the fact, then that's on the mangaka creator or whoever is in charge of editing, or the exec decisions, yada yada.

I don't understand Guy Ritchie's career post 2019. He's made six movies, all of which have bombed (only one of them even made its production budget back) and/or gone straight to streaming, on top of getting mixed to negative press. I don't get the business model.

The Gentlemen was both his last financially successful movie and also the only one that felt like a proper Guy Ritchie movie since Rocknrolla. Everything else has been either him riding the RDJnaissance, selling out to Disney or trying to make wannabes like Henry Cavill, Charlie Hunnam or John Krasinski into a thing. He only catches a break with Statham now and then.

Speaking of which: Henry Cavill. Not counting cameos and Netflix shit, he's been in two theatrically released movies in the past 8 years (Guy Ritchie movies), both of which flopped. His last lucrative gig was playing a surprise heavy in someone else's vehicle. This dude is more overhyped than Gabbo.

Love this. It reads arrogant and snotty and I 100% agree with it all.

There is a line between mindless/silly but good-natured fun entertainment and fucking stupid. I know it's subjective but Scary Movie has to be in the latter for any self-respecting person.

I enjoyed the first movie well enough on a rewatch, although I acknowledge its flaws. The rest, even 2 that people seem to think holds up decently, not so much.

I’ll die on the hill that Man from UNCLE is a great spy movie and people were stupid about it.
