Like it says on the tin, just a thread to discuss all the awesome critters that we have.

You've already seen him as my avatar but my dog, Shadow. Original name, I know, but the decision to pick it was less to about his fur color as it was about the fact that he was quiet as a church mouse (though he has certainly found his voice around my family's noisy dogs) and the fact that he would be literally at my heels when I first adopted him from the pound.

A fun story; this little troublemaker was once put in our apartment's bathroom as punishment and managed to escape by tearing a 3 ft hole out of the door.

I'm training my cat to walk on a leash and she's getting pretty good at it. We just walked about 6 blocks without too many stops to sniff things or whatever.
Nice. I've kinda just accepted that my dog just likes to sniff flower bushes and stuff so walks take like twice as long usually.

My happy little potato, Scout. She's a bit of a chonker, and has been getting needy/noisy in her age. But she's still an enjoyable little companion to have around. She always greets me at the door when I get home from a long work shift.

She seemed a little offended when I put that Caution Heavy sticker on her, though.

I gave her all the pettings to make up for it, though!

I currently don't have pets, but that's because I like them and I think having dogie or a kitty would be kinda cruel if I leave them alone all day almost every day, like there are tons of times where I wish I had one of them but it'd just be irresponsible if I'm not going to be around.

To make up for it I play with strays almost every day when I'm coming back from work and stray cats really love me, like I've gotten 5 of them to follow me at the same time, which I consider an achievement since they tend to run away from every one else that tries to play with them, you know like I'm the only one they give permission to pet them.

This is my Stormie. She passed away 4 years ago at the age of 12 and took a huge piece of my heart with. I wasn't a dog person until she made me one. One day in October of 2004, shortly after my ill-fated marriage ceremony, my wife called me at work saying she'd found a puppy outside of her brother's apartment and could we keep it. I said we'd talk about it once I got home, and spent my entire shift thinking of all the ways to say "no." I got home, and inside a tiny box was this two-week-old puppy to which my immediate reaction was: "ok, I'll take her to the vet tomorrow and find out what she might need." No question. We had to bottle feed her for the first month, then gruel, and finally hard food. She immediately became the best thing that ever happened to me, the sole light during some of my darkest hours. She was MY dog despite my ex bringing her home. When we divorced, I gave my ex everything we owned; I just wanted out. She asked who was getting Stormie, and it was the closest I’ve come to domestic violence in my life. No worries, I didn’t do anything, but my wide-eyes and loud tone made it clear Stormie wasn’t in question, and my ex agreed.

I moved back in with my parents for a few months while I got my affairs in order, and soon got the offer to move to Texas. My mom and dad had gotten very attached to Stormie in that time, and my sister asked if I could leave Stormie there while I transitioned to Texas; I agreed. But being down here alone in a one bedroom apartment, figuring it all out by myself and not having the support system of family, spouse or friends to properly care for a long-haired, high-energy dog in this Texas heat, I reluctantly asked my parents if they’d like to keep her “indefinitely.” They loved the idea. I couldn’t wait to see her on my trips home; the first time I visited, she was so excited, she had a seizure. I laid on the floor with her, petting her and kissing her until the seizure passed. 6 years went by, she aged and fell ill. In November of 2016, I got the call from my sister that my parents had to put her down. She was crying. I cried for days. I’m ready to cry now just recalling that day. I’ve entertained the idea of getting a dog with my current girlfriend, but I know I don’t just want “a dog;” I want Stormie, and since that’s not possible, I’m content to love on the various dogs that cross my path for those few moments and let them go without attachment.

This is Siggy. When he's hungry, he cries like a baby. When he's cuddly, he cries like a baby. Sometimes, he cries like a baby without knowing what he wants. About the only time he doesn't cry like a baby is when he goes hunting urban wildlife, be it rats, cockroaches or pigeons. Basically, he's a hyper-competent whiny killing machine.processed.jpeg20200731_183521.jpg

As an extra, though not technically my pets, back when I was serving my draft the army base's ***** gave birth to a few puppies not too far from my barracks, and I had the pleasure of spending a month and a half playing around with them before my draft ended.

You just described every cat.

This is Ellie; the cat that currently runs the house I reside in with my girlfriend. I don't like her and don't claim her as a "pet" hence my reticence to post her pic favorably in a thread about animals we love, but she fits the bill you described to a tee, ugh...

Same with my mom's cats, although they can't even claim to be master hunters, given the mice and squirrels that have managed to infest the house in the last couple of years the cats do shit-all about...
