    How is your music organized?

This is exactly how I organise my CDs. *high five* For organisation! As for my digital collection, organised by artist alphabetically. That said, I'm usually very specific with what I want to listen to at any time, and prefer to listen to a whole album/piece at a time, rather than individual...

Devils Advocate: The "Games as Art" Debate is a Disservice to Art and Games

Thanks for all the lively discussion, everyone! Just to address the main points: It is inevitable that in a discussion such as this, that "art" must be defined. There are many different ideologies which will influence this definition. A popular post-modern definition is that "everything...

Devils Advocate: The "Games as Art" Debate is a Disservice to Art and Games

*DISCLAIMER* The idea I am about to posit could be considered quite inflammatory. I do not wish to troll in any way, simply to provoke intelligent discussion about art and games in relation to it. Agreement is not at all required for this discussion, but logical argument is. Here it is: By...

Jimquisition: Videogames Are Not Movies, Get Over It

Actually, I thought the reference was implying a video game that raises the medium by creating within it a credible artistic achievement, as Citizen Kane is often credited as doing for films. Either way, he's missed the point.

Jimquisition: Videogames Are Not Movies, Get Over It

This was neither funny nor insightful.

Extra Punctuation: Why Regenerating Health Sucks

Though I don't think it's appropriate to all games, I think regenerating health is a good system. Games that rely on you having low health, horror games, for example, lose a sense of thrill if it's so easy to regain health. Other games like shooters benefit from it greatly, I think. It allows...

    What's Wrong with Xbox Live?

"If you just want a six-person server with your friends, it might run you something like $8 a month." I imagine it'd be difficult to rank these people against the rest of the world. You're right, though: I don't know a whole heap about how online gaming works, which is in part why the whole...

    What's Wrong with Xbox Live?

I don't think dedicated servers on Xbox live is a very good idea at all. How do you run worldwide leaderboards across multiple servers? It complicates a service that's intended to be simple, accessible and completely connected.

Most boring/difficult books you've ever read.

Close with Ulysses! It's on my "to read" list! No, I was actually going to say Tristram Shandy! It's very funny, but I can certainly see why even my grandmother, a poet and English teacher, couldn't finish it.

Most boring/difficult books you've ever read.

That seems about right. If I were to post on topic, I'd probably be "Response Type 5." Then I'd list some kind of book that's considered difficult even by "literary fag" standards just to reinforce my unwarranted feeling of superiority.

Ponderings in Relation to Art, Games and Why I Like Milo

They have changed, yes. Baby steps. 2D to 3D presented some huge mechanical changes. But it hasn't changed the base of the gaming experience. Think of the differences between GTA II and III. Big change in how its played and presented, but it's built on the same foundation. I think part of...

Ponderings in Relation to Art, Games and Why I Like Milo

Inspired by several threads recently in relation to art (both related and unrelated to games), I've decided it would be a nice idea to express a few of my thoughts on the topic. Before there can be an understanding of what gaming is in relation to art, there needs to be an understanding of...

The Game Stash: Show Some Respect

Actually, I'm suggesting mutual respect, not mutual understanding. I'm suggesting that geologists aren't going to improve the situation by claiming that God doesn't exist and repeatedly calling the Young Earthers idiots, which may make the Young Earthers' even more adamant and aggressive in...

The Game Stash: Show Some Respect

Being aggressive in defending your opinion and not being open to rationality only serves to solidify the opinion that the people they are condemning are aggressive and irrational people. Also, have you considered that these "moral crusaders" might actually be of the opinion that video games...

The Game Stash: Show Some Respect

See, the problem there is exactly what was discussed in the article. You assume that your opinion is correct and that his is ill-informed, and you are defending your opinion aggressively without leaving the option open for rational discussion and a goal of mutual understanding.
