Huzzah Yahtzee! Machinarium rejuvenated my belief that a small team can make a wonderfully entertaining game that holds up against the gigantor developers.

+1 For Silent Hill 2. The lead up to the first encounter with Pyramid Head is a lesson in pants-wetting terror( I believe the first time you see him he's standing motionless behind bars in a hallway; when you go into a nearby room and come back out he's gone).What that game did better than most...
Excellent review. I liked this game quite a bit, but there were some glaring issues. The mining was just an afterthought. All those descriptions of planets and yet nothing really to actually *do* on them (mostly)? And with all these space pirates and such where are the frakkin' SPACE battles...

I tried my hand at borderlands just yesterday. I just couldn't get into it. I've played this game 100 times before--that's what I kept thinking whilst killing random mutant dog/bandit and collecting random ammo/health kit from random debris pile/corpse. Where's the fun bit?
