This reply is subject to opinion. The term 'metal' has indeed become ridiculously broad. There are over 50 sub genres i can think of. A perfect example i can think of is Mastodon's album 'Leviathan' which is a concept album about Moby-Dick. While i wont deny that it was a brilliant album...
