I'd argue it's more on the publisher then the developers not having the right chops. Even a seasoned programming wizard needs time to learn new technologies and techniques. Computer science is always changing, it's not something you learn once and then everything builds off of for all time...
I don't like the way the father is portrayed as a classically out of touch "honey, where did I leave the remote?" kind of guy. I am hoping a movie about emotions can show more of complexities in people.
