Knock-Knock - a strange 2D horror game released so silently that some of the backers didn't notice

I'm a considerable ways in and I like it. It's strange, it's creepy, it's doing a magnificent job of being batshit insane and paranoid in ways that would shame most japanese attempts at denpa (google it) but it's also unforgiving as hell. And forget holding your hand. So yeah, standard Ice-Pick...

    Fake Geek Girls

Really? No one's gonna say it? I have to be *that* guy? Mami doesn't use anything remotely pistol-shaped, she uses flintlock rifles.

Poll: Are visual novels "read" or "played"? Your opinion?

If you influence the progression of events (aka make a choice, play a minigame, pick a route) then it's a game. If it's a kinetic novel like Planetarian or Umineko, then you'd read it. Although if you wanted to say you were reading a particular section it wouldn't exactly be wrong, either.

Deskimus P. Presents: Awesome Games With Stupid Names Part 2: Muv-Luv Alternative

I have mixed feelings on Clannad. Yes, the VN is better than the first season of the anime; I think they're about on par in terms of After Story vs. the second season. First season of Clannad cuts out a huge amount from almost everyone's arcs as it tries to juggle the harem thing, despite...

    Looking for new games...

The thing about that Cracked article is, not only did they not really pick very good ones, they also didn't even pick the weirdest. Then again, there's some really weird shit out there. But I'm assuming that's not what you're looking for. Here's some you might be into: I can't recommend...

    Touhou Explaination 2.0:

There's a 1.04 TERABYTE torrent floating around of every Touhou remix currently available. There are dozens of bands who make their living off remixing Touhou songs. The scope of this fandom is mind-boggling. I myself have about 8 gigs' worth of smooth jazz remixes that sound perfectly...

    Touhou Explaination 2.0:

Nice summary, much less, well, aggressive than the previous one. Could use some pictures and gameplay videos, or even some music links. Allow me to assist. I'm a big fan of the series myself, but you can't really describe the oncoming hail of bullets as accurately as, say, a video of Yukari's...

Survival Horror on a Cruise Ship

999 anyone? It's not exactly survival horror, but it goes a long way to show the creepy atmosphere you can have on an abandoned ocean liner. Although it's more being afraid of the people on your side than the monsters who aren't. Axe endings all day every day. Plus the neural-hijacking...

Mardock Scramble: The First Compression (Anime Review)

This looks kind of cool, and also reminded me I have it sitting around unwatched on my hard drive. I think I'll take a look. "Like Kikokugai" is a pretty good recommendation in my book. Although Satoko as an assassin is something I can't even wrap my head around. Great review. I wonder if...

All in the Golden Afternoon: A Review of Forest

That...makes a lot of sense to me. Especially the "Mama!" parts, I was really scratching my head at a lot of that. Again, I'll definitely have to replay it sometime, there's just so much there to take in. I wish someone would translate Kusarihime already, I'm really interested in it now...

Deskimus Prime Skips A Beat with Katawa Shoujo

Thanks, I'm glad to hear it. Keep in mind he is just a stupid teenager going through his first relationship, and everything seems a lot more obvious to us the observer. If nothing else, it reminded me of all the times I've screwed up or almost screwed up relationships due to being, well, a...

All in the Golden Afternoon: A Review of Forest

I'm actually kinda glad you beat me to this review because it's damned good, and probably better than what I'd have done. It definitely deserves more than a single playthrough, but I have to ask: do you know if there are multiple endings? I had to use a walkthrough for chapter 6 (sweet jesus...

Deskimus P. Frolics with the Sea Cats in: Umineko no Naku Koro ni

Someone pointed out Kusarihime to me a while back, and although I'd really love to play it, my Japanese is on par with that of a brain-damaged elementary school student. Not the kind of thing to be reading plot-heavy visual novels with. That is pretty interesting about the time loops thing...

Deskimus P. Frolics with the Sea Cats in: Umineko no Naku Koro ni

Well shit. Glad - and surprised - you caught that. Thanks, I'll have to try it out, although I hear one or more of the characters Yasu are spoilers? Yeah, I hear the adaptation is pretty awful, not to mention butchers the plot. You'd probably have to play 2-4 just to catch things they...

Call of Duty: Black Ops Tops Guinness' "Greatest Videogame Ending" List

There are no words in Elvish, Entish, nor the tongues of men for this...bullshit. There's nothing on here more than 5 years old, not an AAA title, or isn't mind-buggeringly idiotic. I agree with Bioshock, Shadow of the Colossus, the two Portals, FFVII (though VI should take its place, that...
