Did you read the quest texts? You may be right, LotRO is pretty toned down for an MMO. But Middle earth by itself is a world with virtually no magic of the WoW magician kind. But if you try to see the world as a whole world and not a collection of quest spots, LotRO is the best you can probably...

I bought LotRO for 250 euros when it came out because it included the Lifetime sub and the box looked cool. But I knew what was coming from the Beta and I really liked it. Now I play for more than two years and will be for some more. So it's not always a dumb move, it can be very smart.

If these are your criteria, play Lord of the Rings Online. It really has a good story that runs through all your characters life, the graphics are great (even if animations are a bit better in WoW). All reviews I read were good overall too. And within the next years you will see Isengart, Helms...

In a recent interview a Turbine exec said that they would try to get back international distribution rights for some of their games. Now they have a lawsuit with Atari who is publishing LotRO in Australia by the way. Even if this is about DDO I think there is more to this than just a license...
