I think the distinction should be made between large team commercial development and developing games in general. Game development is not inherently life destroying, but when large amounts of money are involved, that's when the fun disappears.

I'm sure that if MadWorld was a game of actual substance, it would have sold better. I think these types of statements should just remain as memos (excuses) to investors. I've never heard any PS3/360 owners crying about how they couldn't play MadWorld. Good grief.

I'm very skeptical of trying to force more empathy from the players, it's just not how I see the Metroid series. I'm sure it'll be a good game, but I think it's an unnecessary effort. I mean, could you imagine if Mario Galaxy 2 wanted to focus on the tortured soul of the plumber? Exactly.
