I was going to post something akin to this, but you summed it up perfectly. This is why games like Dreadhalls are utterly terrifying, and Alien Isolation becomes a LOT less scary once you grab that flamer. They should have disabled it at the highest difficulties.

Indeed, someone's view of reality can be so twisted, to the point that they believe their own lies. Narcissists in particular are very good at this.
At least, some lies can be proven to be such.
I remember playing this with the Combat Rebalance mod at the hardest difficulty. Yes, I was that much masochistic.
But anyway I still like it very much to this day. It requires some investment, but it's still a cornerstone of western RPGs despite its limitations.
After getting a Vive and binging on VR games, I had a LOT of lucid dreams for a while, until I got used to it. I think this is because my mind perceives VR similarly to how it perceives dreams, and the feeling of control I have in them translates in dreams..? Anyway, it was absolutely awesome...
