There are a few game "features" that I don't mind turning off with mods or console commands. Weapons degradation and painful inventory limits are usually it, because they feel more like a timesink than a challenge.
Most of the time if a game is just tedious I'm going to stop playing it...
Journey, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus..
I also really, really liked the boss sprites in Ragnarok Online back in the day. The 3d maps were mostly pretty dull, but the sprites were both adorable and crazy.
edit: honorable mention to Muramasa. The food especially looked so delicious
I wasn't entertaining thoughts of a new SH. But "open world action game with co-op" sounds like the furthest possible thing from scary, so oh well. My last hope is it will be as surreal as the trailer. Failing that there is no way I'm getting this.
Eh. I like Aramaki's look. Batou is ok. The Major is.. Scarjo in a messy short haircut. Whatever. Togusa, as everyone said, looks ancient but Chin Han himself doesn't, so maybe it's just a bad photo.
It's really going to come down to the acting (not holding my breath) and writing of course...
Ascension. Absolutely
It's pretty pick to quick up and sometimes hard to gauge who's winning unless you're really keeping track, which I actually like.
You do the deckbuilding in game.
Smallworld's pretty good with 2 people too, if you like more of a Risk kind of thing.
Anyone played Lugaru? I quite liked that. Not perfect but quick, responsive and pretty satisfying. No clipping your weapons through every enemy because the combos have a single animation. Regular weapons actually make a big difference to the fight (and you can steal weapons and lose them)...
So far have only gotten the Stanley Parable and Momodora, also thinking about Prince of Persia SoT, Bloodlust Shadowhunter (for them VtM shakes) and Nevermind. Hyper Light Drifter is only 20% because it's still new, so pass.
goddamn fucking sewers.
and judging by the replies so far, I'm kind of amazed game developers haven't caught on that most people would rather have a shorter game than sewer level filler.
Distant second : abandoned asylum/hospital
my suggesh
would also say Adorea/Gavrill from Franken Fran but I guess they don't count really, being the result of mad science instead of natural monsters
I.. hm. wow.
Also I just have to mention, when was the last time anyone said "go (name), it's your birthday"? The whole script reeks of a bad Newgrounds flash from the 90s.
I *kind of* liked both of them.
Firewatch had good if slightly smarmy dialogue (as Yahtzee mentions), the pacing is a little slow but that's fine for gradual reveals. Things get really odd and interesting about halfway through, then it just peters out when everything is explained at the end and...
and you're not the only one.
Whitewashing was the least offensive thing about that trailer, well behind the overblown, ridiculous CG, the 0 acting they saw fit to show, the stupid premise..
