    On RTS Games

Natural Selection is exactly what was described: an RTS/FPS with a God's-view commander and FPS-playing individual troops on the ground. It was a great game that really deserved more attention than it got; granted, it was "just" a HL1 mod, but so was Counter Strike. I feel like so much of this...

View from the Road: When I Was a Pirate

Did you even read my post? I did save up for games. But when I switched to just playing my own games competitively and not trying new games through piracy, I basically stopped buying games altogether. My piracy was not costing anyone money, nor was it done simply because I wanted to grab up as...

View from the Road: When I Was a Pirate

It's easy to act like economic issues don't apply to first-world countries, but there are large portions of the population that simply can't afford games, especially at launch price. The whole "pirates are largely jerks who know they're being unethical" paradigm strikes me as unrealistic at best...

A View From The Road: The Perfect Subscription

Unless I'm mistaken, the math you've provided means getting the game in full (no limits to play times) costs ~75 bucks, and that's not even considering the fact that you're gonna have to buy the expansions if you want to keep up with multiplayer (I won't even get into the issues that arise from...

Where Blizzard's Design Philosophy Failed (And Succeeded)

I can't help but feel like this "Blizzard design philosophy" is basically the same as everyone else's. "Easy to learn, difficult to master" and "responsive controls" are mottos everywhere.

Apocalypse Lane: Episode 36: A Neighborhood in Crisis

Great episode. Cuddles was amazing. "Take your stinking tentacles off me you damn, dirty *****!"

Nintendo Built 3D Into the Gamecube

Am I the only one who read a decent portion of the article thinking it was some sort of joke, with Nintendo poking fun at competitors for focusing so much on graphics and at themselves for getting low Gamecube sales? Like, "I know the 3D graphics on PS3 seem interesting, but we've actually had...

What Are the BioWare Founders' 5 Games of the Decade?

The Orange Box and God of War 1/2. Those two stand out the most to me as above the rest. There are other great games out there but I couldn't really choose 3 arbitrarily to add over the others.

    PSP games that don't suck?

If you even slightly like any sorts of puzzle games, Lumines is great. Extremely addicting and with stylish presentation. And this is coming from someone who doesn't much care for games like Tetris.

    Best Game Openings...

God of War 1 had a good intro movie. HL 1 and 2 both had great intro game sequences too. However, the intro I get most nostalgic for would have to be Probably because of both the music and the fact that at the time I had been used to PS1/N64 graphics and snowboarding games without awesome...

    Poll: Game Dogs: Your opinion.

I watched the first and tried getting through episodes 2 and 3 but got too bored in both cases. I suppose it's possible to improve it sufficiently, but I have doubts it's the next Apocalypse Lane. ATM it's just flat out unfunny and uninteresting to me.

A thread for those who go to college

Film & Digital Media major. I find I don't really have strong hatred or love for specific topics so much as hatred or love for teachers. I've had awful classes in subjects I thought I adored (Electronics, Television Culture & Society) and amazing classes in subjects that sounded like jokes...

The Hard Problem: The New Concurrency

I can't help but get this feeling that "proximal concurrency," as described in the article, isn't significantly more important than absolute concurrency, if significant at all. If you're in a 1v1 poker tournament, you're only playing against a single winner of their bracket. The other players...

    236: Gordon Freeman, Private Eye

Inorite?? It's not like this site is about the game industry and Valve is one of the most acclaimed game studios of all time. I mean, if you're going to the trouble to put attribution on your images [http://cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/articles/article/6999/Owens_i236.jpg], why...

    236: Gordon Freeman, Private Eye

Half-Life is not Copyright EA. It's owned solely by Valve. EA just had the console publishing rights to the Orange Box. I dunno why people keep mixing that up.
