Alot of times if games don't have the check box to change windowed mode, they have a text file where you can changed windowed to true or fullscreen to false. Also, A second monitor would be great for you.

Why not just use free version of malware bytes (the free version does almost everything the full version does so don't bother buying it.)? You can install it in safemode from a USB. Then you can enjoy both your fixed XP and linux unbuntu via dual booting.
