The Democratic Primary is Upon Us! - Biden is the Presumptive Nominee

I mean, yes but also no. A bureaucracy already exists, but it is largely structured so that privately owned caregivers can get money from semi-public insurance firms. Very little of that would survive the transition to publicly owned caregivers paid by federal or state programs. As someone...

The Democratic Primary is Upon Us! - Biden is the Presumptive Nominee

I think you're right. To add to this, as other people have said about Sanders before: The USA is not ready for a massive reform to mimic Nordic Model social democratic policies. No matter if I, sitting an ocean away, think Bernie have the best policies, the simple truth is that neither American...

Corvid-19 and its impact (name edit)

There are, however, a lot of other confounding factors, many of which are not yet fully understood. For example northern Italy has a higher exchange with the Wuhan region than most of Germany and Italians practice generational living (two or more adult generations living together) to a far...

Realism and Weapons Part 2: Staff and Stick Weapons

Telescoping batons are designed to be flexible, which takes a lot of the force out of the blow as the baton flexes backwards when it hits its target. It hurts like hell and causes bruising and minor soft tissue damage, but the force dissipation means breaking bones is unlikely. I'm aware...

Realism and Weapons Part 2: Staff and Stick Weapons

The efficiency of a metal helmet in saving you from head trauma is very much tied to its padding. If you have little or no padding on the inside, your head is still banging around inside a metal can. If you have a lot of padding (such as a coif) most of the concussive force is absorbed by it and...

    Resident Evil 3 Review Thread

If you did it like that, I can see why you'd think that. The trick is to shoot the pink pustules that appear on Nemesis. They all explode after 2-3 handgun shots and once they are all gone Nemesis keels over for a fairly long nap so that you can push the fuses in peace. Do it like that and it is...

    Bad News, Everyone

If we were going off of only people's opinions, sure. However, one need not go farther than to crime statistics to realize that one gender commits the overwhelming majority of violent crimes. There's a very fruitful discussion to be had about why men are so incredibly violent compared to women...

COVID-19 Useful Information to help us all surive

You're on the money. The most basic assumption in hospital quarantine procedures is that one or more of the efforts to contain a disease can fail, so there are several efforts in place to ensure that spread doesn't occur. Stuff like wear gloves but clean and disinfect your hands after using...

COVID-19 Useful Information to help us all surive

Meeting other people in small groups is fine as long as everyone involved understands that they should cancel the moment they have symptoms of Covid-19 (no "it is my allergy" or "I just have a cold" excuses, you cancel) or someone close to them, like people in the same home, exhibit symptoms...

    Inexplicably popular books.

You get so close to getting Evilthecat's point (and the one I tried to make earlier in this thread), yet whiff at the very last instant. Yes, there is broadly three ways to adress how FTL works in Sci-Fi (and in extension all kinds of world building): The ignore way, the hand wave way and...

    Bad News, Everyone

You say that like they aren't the same thing. It is (((WHO))) who tells us to vaccinate our children and thus away their God given male aggression and force our daughters to become feminist lesbians.

    John Wick as a game?

I've played the game and my opinion is similar. When you get the flow going and can get it all to work you can capture the feeling of the movies, but then other times it just ends up being weird jitter stepping to block LoS and the whole game just feels weird and awkward.

    John Wick as a game?

There's already John Wick Hex. It definitely catches the choreography of the movies, but whether it feels like John Wick depends on your relation to isometric games.

The Democratic Primary is Upon Us! - Biden is the Presumptive Nominee

Not when your argument hinges on talking to the opposition in different ways to get them on board. If the opposition is dead set on considering anything you say wrong, there's nothing you can say to make them think you're right. And changing policy to get closer to them is what has been tried...

    Inexplicably popular books.

40k has world building, I never denied that. The difference between 40k and Fallout or Expanse is the core assumption of the world building. In Fallout and the Expanse the core question is always "why does this setting work?", hence you get an explanation of Epstein drives, you get a lot of...
