"Ployhar says, as an example, games would have be be able to maintain 30 frames per second at 720p on medium settings, and have controller support if it's a multi-platform title."
I like how their absolute minumum standard is pretty much the Xbone's maximum.
I really don't like metacritic and I never take their review scores into account when deciding on a purchase, but they're pretty much right here. I mean, there was Spec Ops as the standout in my mind, Far Cry 3 looks pretty good (watched a friend play it for a while) and ME3 and Dishonored were...
More games like Just Cause 2 and Driver: San Francisco that aren't afraid to defy reality completely unironically if it means having a good time.
Also, how about a medieval fast paced swarming combat game (sort of like Arkham Asylum but with swords/magic) set to an epic metal soundtrack.
Most recently: Medal of Honor: Doorfighter
Everything that's bad about modern military shooters made even worse than usual (made the BlOps 2 campaign feel open and organic by comparison)
Apart from that: Far Cry 2 (for the reasons everyone already said)
LOL: Because I played one match...
The idea kind of makes me more thankful of the universe (or simulation) that we've got. Because I know that if I were one of the people running these universe simulators I'd be fucking around with it a fair bit, so now I'm just glad that I didn't get put in the "everyone's on fire" simulation...
Drove from work to the petrol station (about 6kms) with the handbrake still on. It's a good thing I needed petrol because it's another 20km to get home from there which probably wouldn't have worked out well for my brake linings (in my defence it was midnight).
The story is in my top 3 of all games I've ever played, maybe even number one (though I haven't finished Silent Hill 2 yet) and the gameplay was pretty solid (meshed well with the story, too). It certainly could've gone the way of being one of those games with one amazing aspect being let down...
I don't think the ratings system is the problem here. I think it's just people being stupid. If a parent would really look at the box art for a Call of Duty game, see the numerous guns and combat knives, and still think that it's appropriate for their 10-year-old then they probably just...
I'm going to go with Bioshock, because we are talking about games and the best intro award should go to a game with an intro made of actual gameplay, not cinematics.
That or Portal 2. Because it was funny.
