Poll: Would you play a game with racist/sexist overtones if it was fun?

Wasn't one of the gangs in the original Manhunt racist (bore swastika tattoos)? That's the least subtle form of racism. Games are made by people. As such, I'm sure there's plenty of racist overtones in the games we already play. One just has to look.

Reviews: A Great New Way to Write for The Escapist

Is this something that will likely stay open (as games need reviewing)? This is an opportunity that I'd like to pursue in the future, but not at this moment.

Psychonauts and the Tragedy of Used Games

Well that depends if they feel like games is enough of a draw to try and sell you other stuff while you're there. One theory is you stock items that you make no to little profit on, in order to try and hawk stuff that you make lots of profit on. Movie theaters are great example of this where...

    107: Girlfriend, Rat

This seems like it could be easily modified to include female characters going after the femme fatale themselves. It's just up to the roleplayers, right?

    107: Blackmailers Don't Shoot

First, moderators, if you see this, ignore the report I filed. I was looking for reply and accidentally hit report. Second, Noir is often seen more for its style rather than its substance. It's similar to the screwball comedy in that way. Noir paints a particular portrait of the world. The...

    106: Can't Wait Till Tomorrow

I don't know. A review might be able to link songs to gameplay structurally. Think about combo focused fighters. A song has a hook, a chorus, verses and a melody. Usually a combo has a setup and then a repeatable pattern to continue the combo, sometimes indefinitely, sometimes not. Would it be...

    106: Can't Wait Till Tomorrow

Good call. By looking at games that way, it wouldn't require reviewers to stay within the culture of games. There's no reason that literature, music, and art can't be brought into a review instead of just story, sound, and graphics. Yup and even if you can find it, will it still run on your...

    106: Can't Wait Till Tomorrow

Good article. Many reviewers have a long memory for games, yet generally the best context we get is if the game under review is a sequel. Comparing games critically or for historical context is great, but it's not useful to readers if they can't find them. That needs to be as easy as going to...
