Souls series: needs an installment set in the future or modern times

    It's called STALKER. [http://www.gog.com/game/stalker_shadow_of_chernobyl]

Videogames which you can't buy from well-known sites

I can't believe Escape from Butcher Bay STILL only comes in used retail form.

    Decent Android RPGs?

Dragonfall for 'Droid is scheduled for this month. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1613260297/shadowrun-returns/posts/948620 Might be on the heavy side for a phone though.

    Recommendations: PC JRPG's

This is Japan's Betrayal at Krondor, a tragically unknown PC RPG, with actual strategic and tactical depth in both adventure (e.g. avoid and sneak attack enemy parties) and combat (turn based with grid, every character has decent set of options), and with real stories about people and life (and...

I Need A Turn-Based Game Fix, Any Suggestions?

Yea, go to GOG.com and search "turn-based" anyway (their search engine supports some tags -- settings, gameplay styles, multiplayer -- as well as titles). Even a clunker PC shouldn't struggle much with those that are purely sprite-based.

    Good games for the IOs?

Inxile Asks Torment Backers To Vote On Combat System

A good fight doesn't let you issue the same order, or subset of orders, or sequence of orders for very long whatever the combat system may be. And honestly, real-time combat AI will have to prove itself pretty damn advanced before I'll leave it to its own devices for over 2 seconds. And at...

Looking for free and open-source games

Marathon Series [http://marathon.sourceforge.net/] While not as known or well-aged as id's and 3D Realms' classics, it still has fans for its unique feel and personality. Dark Mod is on Doom 3, and Doom 3 is open under GPL, thus so is Dark Mod.

Games you liked in Genres you hated

Herzog Zwei penetrated my RTS-proof shield by exchanging that insufferable pointyclicky paradigm for a unit of my own with which I could take direct action whenever I wanted, i.e. making me squad leader instead of general. Also the AI player was dumb Hostile Waters did the same by letting me...

GOTY for every year since your birth.

From each year what I feel has the best mix of game design quality, influence on me, and played-it-a-shitton. I consider the year of a game to be the year of its first release as far as I can find. 84: Karateka 85: Super Mario Bros 86: Castlevania 87: Flying Shark 88: Ninja Gaiden 89...

Ready Your Wallets For the "Not On Steam Sale " - UPDATED

Demo here: http://www.winterwolves.com/lorenamazonprincess.htm Uhm...morbidly intriguing. Hardly the next Betrayal at Krondor that it promises at first -- surely not in taste or in writing quality. Combat and character systems are serviceable, but beyond that gameplay is limited to...

    Disgea-ish game for the PC?

Free ones: Vantage Master https://www.falcom.co.jp/vantage/index_e.html Battle for Wesnoth http://www.wesnoth.org/ In my turn-based strategy phases I remember having fun with those.

Wasteland 2 Gameplay Demo Explodes All the Goats

Yes, seriously. To writer and anyone else who doesn't get, a "demo" is a small free playable sample of the game. Well maybe the preferred term for that now is "lite edition", per iOS.

How can you make the player feel underpowered but not weak?

The few powers you have should let you do many creative and challenging things, and every problem in the game should be solvable by doing those things well enough. Yea, since getting seriously into the biz I don't really see genres much anymore.
