I would make the arguments that the rising rights of minorities is the biggest determining factor. What is the point of celebrating the accomplishments of previous generations when only a small percentage of the world population (white males) actually got to enjoy it.

The stormcloaks are nothing but a bunch of racist ultra-nationalistic assholes. And since I'm a black guy playing a dark elf I happily joined the empire and wipe out the stormcloaks whenever I see them.

Usually less than 50 only a few games have passed that mark, but a select few do get pass the 100 hour mark. Arma 2 and Oblivion are 2 examples.
