The Strong Announces 2016 World Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees

I didn't say it was a casual game in a derogatory sense. I said that it was the birth of the casual gamer. You forget that consoles were not the gateway to casual gamers at the time (That started with the Wii). They were pricy and computers were in almost every home by 2000. Since...

The Strong Announces 2016 World Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees

The SIMs represents the birth of the casual gamer. People who never played a thing before played the SIMs. If we want to talk cultural penetration, it rates way up there.

The Wackiest Anime Ever, Part 1

Showing my age, but. . . Ping Pong Club. I am ashamed to say I even remember that anime, but some things even brain bleach cannot remove. The turtle segment remains etched in my memory to this day no matter how hard I try to purge it.

7 Anime You Missed in 2015

Hopefully Japan agrees. There is at least one more season of material in the first 5 book series and I'm really hoping they animate all of it.

7 Anime You Missed in 2015

Biggest miss for a lot of people in my opinion was Gate. That was my crack this year. I did like the premise of Overlord, though. They ended it at just about the right place as well because the light novels after that start to require a pallet cleanser between them.

the Hugo awards and sad puppies.

I think Kawahara has actually matured into a great writer. His early stories were entertaining but the writing style was a bit loose. Recently, I've been reading his SAO: Progressive series (Yen press is finally publishing them)and I cannot find a fault. They are seriously good. I know many...

the Hugo awards and sad puppies.

Just to clear up a few things in this thread: 1. The puppies were not necessarily against fiction with a message. I think the biggest failing was branding the voting blocks in question a cabal. They were not, it was just a relatively homogeneous group of fans that over time had come to make...

What Is the Future of Video Game Journalism?

But the answers to the questions you presented are opinions. One critic may think they achieved their goal and the mechanics are fine. another might think the mechanics are poor. There is no simple yes or no answer in a review. The trick is not to find a "correct" reviewer. The trick is...

8 Games From The 90s You Should Have Played

I got the feeling they were going for games that had a more limited circulation. People always talk about Torment and the like. I very rarely see somebody mention Actraiser. It's not a bad list of good games that do not get a lot of conversations.

Star Wars: X-Wing - Lock Your S-Foils in the Awesome Position

When I got the first Rogue Squadron novel I laughed at the very first couple pages. The author felt my pain. I HATED the Redemption Scenario with a passion. Now I get to subject myself to that again. Oh the wonders. (By the way, if you like Star Wars or this game I recommend the novels...

The Pen is Mightier Than the Polygon: Why Words Matter

This style of game is now the domain of the small indi dev for thosse reasons, and I cannot say I see a huge problem with that. We've seen a lot of smaller, leaner studios taking advantage of this That being said, it's interesting to see established studios like Obsidian get into this mix...

Ultra Rare Copy of Marvelman #26 Sells For A Song

If this is actually the only known copy that exists and it's in condition as good as noted in the product description, it's priceless. Collectors will pay a fortune. There are 50-100 copies of Action Comics #1 still around, and an 8.5 grade one sold for 1.5 million. A 9.0 grade one sold for...

Is Adult Swim's Black Jesus the Savior We Need?

I completely disagree. Bob's stances have always leaned toward being a Social Liberal. He's from Boston after all. The fact is however that because of the timing there will be no way NOT to tie this to the real world events that are informing it. Asking him to exclude context from an opinion...

    The Not-So-Amazing Spider-Man

My first introduction to superheros on TV was The Greatest American Hero. Not marvel related, but that damn theme song still gets stuck in my head from time to time.
