CONFESSION TIME (reveal your most unpopular tastes)

I'll go first: I don't mind the 360's D-pad. In fact, I rather like it. I find it more comfortable than other D-pads over prolonged use, and I've never felt it more difficult to get it to register the direction I want. Also, the only part of FFVII I liked was Midgar. Also, the only part...

Tsunoda: iPad's Wild Success Won't Compare to Kinect

I can't be the only one who feels that this is exactly false; people make these sorts of claims constantly.

    Martial art of choice

I second Jujitsu, which I took for a few years and still would if schedule and such allowed. Other things like Krav Maga, though I haven't taken it myself, seem to me of a similar caliber; what I liked about Jujitsu is that it was strictly no-nonsense, self-defense. All sorts of finger-breaking...

Why are people so skeptical of 3D?

Not being able to see the sides of the image is the definition of it being an image and not a hologram. I'm not pretending stereoscopic displays are holographic. Look at it this way: right now I can look at my hat, which is on the chair next to me. The image that my brain is perceiving is 3D...

Why are people so skeptical of 3D?

Forgive me, but I don't think this is accurate. I've used many different types of 3D image viewers, and with even the most uncomfortable ones (red/green glasses and "magic eye" pictures) I see actual 3D images, not just flat images arranged at different depths.

Why are people so skeptical of 3D?

I don't think it's ever been in a product the average person is likely to buy, though. I don't know the history of autostereoscopic displays (I think that's the term), but yes, I figured it stood to reason that anything being featured in an upcoming mass market consumer device must have been...

Why are people so skeptical of 3D?

I read Yahtzee's EP. As usual it is pretty good stuff, and I agree wholeheartedly that 3D as a step towards virtual reality (just like motion controls as a step towards virtual reality) is stupid, for reasons stated. However, if the subject must be brought up, there is one thing that 3D is...

    On Kinect and PlayStation Move

While Yahtzee is spot-on about this miserable quest towards virtual reality which the games industry is apparently attempting, I would like to point out that both motion controls and 3D screens have the potential to create games that would not be possible without them: Motion controls: a...

Why are people so skeptical of 3D?

Yes and personal jetpaks, personal android servants, laser weaponry, and other technological advancements that were deemed too expensive and ultimately unnecessary have been abandoned. Most people are perfectly happy with 2D television sets, so I don't see what the market is for 3D. Not only...

    Poll: Half-Life 2

    Sir, you win.

Why are people so skeptical of 3D?

I can't see the reasoning behind #1. Every technology we're using now, from flash drives to wireless internet to portable computers, was once too expensive, was once almost impossible to imagine as ever being affordable to more than a technophile. 3-4 could also be said of HD, widescreen...

Why are people so skeptical of 3D?

Look, 3D is the next big thing, and that's just a fact. By that I don't mean that 3D screens are going to revolutionize life, just that they will replace regular 2D screens, just like HD replaced non-HD. Years from now, the only electronics that won't have 3D screens are the ones that are too...

How do you type the word 'minimum'?

Huh, interesting. Seems the way I got used to is somewhat more common than the "correct" one. For myself, I never learned to type with standard touch typing patterns, nor did I ever "figure out" the patterns I do use, I just sort of... do them. Things I've noticed about my own typing (when I...

How do you type the word 'minimum'?

I'm doing some research on touch typing, possibly thinking of trying to learn Dvorak or Colemak. I have a simple question for you: how do you type the word 'minimum'? By which I mean, which fingers hit which keys? If you type by feel and aren't entirely sure, just type this normal-sounding...

"The Humble Indie Bundle" or, "how to get five excellent indie games for any price"

The Humble Indie Bundle [http://www.wolfire.com/humble] I searched, and it looks like no one's posted this yet. I don't recall whether there's any forum rule about promoting certain products buuuuut I'm willing to risk it, this is just too good. And I'm not affiliated with them, so it's not...
