    Jimquisition: Creative Freedom, Strings Attached

My question is: does freedom of speech encompass obligation of listening? That is, one is free to say what ever one wants, but does it means that I'm obligated to listen?

    Movie Defense Force: Silent Hill

I remember her from the Kingdom Hospital tv series. She did ok then, but in SH she was not good at all. Completely agree on this one. It's like they put the game sound track in a shotgun barrel and shoot at the movie timeline and call it the day.

    Movie Defense Force: Silent Hill

My point is: art direction cannot redeem the bad stuff in a movie, the same way nice graphics (not cutscenes, but graphics in general) cannot redeem bad gameplay. Take what Yahtzee calls "spunkgargleweewee": FPS with cutting edge graphics with boring gameplay. Fun? it can be, but it in the...

    Movie Defense Force: Silent Hill

But I ask you this: does it work as a horror movie? Or is just a good thriller with supernatural elements? For me that's the major fail of the movie: not being scary.

    Movie Defense Force: Silent Hill

To say that Silent Hill the movie is good because it has the aesthetics, the pacing, music and camera angles is like saying that a game is great because the graphic looks nice, even if the gameplay sucks. Just saying... SH:tM is an average movie with some well polished elements. Is it fun...

    Jimquisition: Neutered

An opinion may contain an argument or not. In the matter of personal taste logic may not always apply: it's an arbitrary choice. "I like this or that", period. But if your opinion relies in an argument, logic applies. "This is good because x and y". In this case, rules of logic applies to...

    Jimquisition: Neutered

Not buying my game is as much your prerogative as it is mine to make a game the way I want. It doesn't mean that one shouldn't listen to critiques and advice, but that the final word in a game is that of the author's. If he/she decides to make the way another party wants (publisher...

    Jimquisition: Neutered

What I don't get is why, oh, why, people who complaint about this or that type of game just ignore them and invest more time and money on games they like? Isn't "Because the industry don't make them" a bad excuse?? If I was a game designer and someone told me that my game is this or that...

Escapist Podcast: 091: Sega & Gearbox False Advertisement Suit

On false advertising and games. Firstly, even if some practices are standard to the industry, it doesn't make them OK... It shows that the industry relies on deception to sell their products (see video at 49:40). Secondly, the slippery slope argument (see video at 51:15) is not fully...

    It Never Ends

Actually, taking into consideration that not all games are design by gender (gender neutral orientation games such puzzles and especially casual ones) AND that the world population of gamers (according to "unofficial" numbers) are around 67% of the world population (which I really doubt) and...
