The Odyssey
The best damn IMAX experience I've ever had. Screw the internet and all the jeering and the cherry-picking about the casting, the wardrobe, the accents, the modern turns of phrases. This is a 10/10 picture and I say that as someone who's actually read the poem and has his own...
Never heard of him. Mortal Kombat character?
/ Watching The Odyssey tomorrow. If they nail the supernatural stuff I'll be happy. I still think of Nolan as the guy that got famous for grounding Batman in reality and taking the boring, realistic road to explain away characters like Bane and R'as...
Apparently Sam Neill has died. Sad and depressed to read about it. He's the one celebrity - or person for that matter - who I would check in on social media now and then cause he would just put out videos of himself chilling with his animals buddies or waxing about a distant, fond memory. Always...
Project Hail Mary
It's a cute, funny movie about an astronaut with amnesia and his rock monster friend as they adventure game their way to save the stars from dying out. There's quite a bit of schmaltz involved, which is offset by the science-minded approach to storytelling, world building and...
Yeah that's the other thing, I kept asking what the show/story was supposed to be. And it swings wildly between broad farce and comedy-of-errors and somber nostalgia.
Forced to watch Sparks of Tomorrow on Netflix. It's supposed to be a steampunk thing about a couple of kids running around with the blueprint to electrical engineering, that I'm assuming caters to toxic, plausibly deniable homoeroticism or my girlfriend wouldn't insist we watch it. It's a...
We were ranking dogs as we were watching the movie and had the system figured out by the end.
I don't mind Rantanplan. It's an in-joke with my girlfriend that I say he sucks and she says he's great. He was supposed to skew closer to a higher mark but I kept thinking of dogs that I liked better...
Good Boy
It's that haunted house movie made from the perspective of the dog. It is what it is: a novelty. Impressive as it is that they'd edit a cohesive 74 minute movie around a dog's "performance" using the oldest trick in moviemaking, the dog never quite becomes more than a dumb observer of...
I think it works best when there's some kind of tactical trade-off involved. Resident Evil does it perfectly with the herbs, where you're typically choosing between patching up and making room or holding off for a full heal.
I've never really thought of crafting as a "sin of modern gaming". So you go into your inventory and combine the two things, what's the big deal? Monkey Island does it. Resident Evil does it.
It can be abused and overdrawn just like any other mechanic, like if you combine that with RPG style...
