According to patchnotes they've tried to make the beginning less frustrating. Nevertheless, just use the shield spell, Quen, to soak up damage for you while you get the hang of the swordfighting.
There were a few where I only needed to hear the first second and I knew what it was. I'm sure those with blisteringly fast times were just even better at doing that then I was.
Great song choices, you now have me looking up old favorites. I once had a music appreciation class where half the test was being able to remember a song by it's first 10 seconds.
Technically I'm sure the graphics are high end. Artistically it looked like an ugly yellow mess.
I know the point of most trailers is "lookit all the cool ways to murder people" but this one has still made me really skeptical.
The argument you make is one I've always found myself completely against. To explain, I am against the idea of graphical improvements and minor tweaks being viewed as the standard for advancement. I simply don't see the point of a shiny new chess set when I have my old one that's built to last...
I like your analogy and agree with it's implication that a formula doesn't always need refinement. To borrow it though, my problem with the whole situation is that no one is out there trying to sell me Chess 2: it's just more Chess. Put another way, why should I buy Starcraft 2 when I already...

Deus Ex: Encouraging avoidance of deadly...
Arguing against one's own beliefs, what an insipid idea. These first few results show how little people know of their opposition's argument. No it is clear all this thread will create is strawmen, as people set in their ideas simply cannot fathom how the other side thinks.
I would say Dead Space is a decent introduction to the horror genre. It does some of the basics well even if it's scares start to lose effect later on. It's not entirely jump scares though those are the majority. The important thing is it's actually fun to play.
Looks good to me. The thing to remember is that the costume is created via the ring, I'd say that it makes sense to make something simple and fairly form fitting instead of an elaborate regular costume.
