I don't think Yahtzee is trying to say sandbox games are better because of "Moar freedums!!" Rather, he's saying that even in a linear game the game feels as if you're too dumb to find and take the only path that will let you progress and in that process it denies you opportunities to explore...

WoW is expensive! I love playing it, but I can't dedicate that much money and that much time to the game. I'd love to do some late game stuff but I don't have the time for it.

Well taking that logic even further, EVERY game is a glorified QTE sequence.

Funny because I was going to say I enjoyed Mass Effect 1 was better than the 2 in almost every way. Except being an "action flick" game. Mass Effect 2 was pretty good at that.
