Escape to the Movies: After Earth

The problem for Jaden is is has not earned his bones as a child actor. He didn't start out with dozens of small roles or go to a casting call to win a role himself without his name-brand parents. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith appear to be the WORST sort of helicopter parents because they...

    Movie Defense Force: Showgirls

I like the movie even a bit more than Jim does. The story is weak in spots, but you can see what they are trying to get across. Overall there are worse films with worse constructed stories and worse acting. The movies is lurid and weird, but that not a bad thing.

Escapist Podcast: 089: Religion in BioShock, David Jaffe and Playing Nice

Nude volleyball was a big thing in the naturist community and therefore in popular culture in the 1950s through the 1970s. Its was a THING, so it became the comedic answer of choice that everyone in the 1950s and 1970s would know. It is what might be considered a lost meme. I'm actually...

The Big Picture: Is The Hobbit Too Long?

The 70s animated feature didn't even come close to telling the entire story. I'd rather have three movies that 'over tell' the story then the 'highlight reel' of a movie Rankin/Bass produced.

The Big Picture: Is The Hobbit Too Long?

I don't think The Hobbit was too long, I enjoyed every moment of it and could not see much to cut that would not be just as much of a loss as a gain for brevity. I remember seeing Gandhi in 1982/83 when I was 14 years old and being totally engaged in the whole story for all 191 minutes...

    Movie Defense Force: Alien 3

I still like the first film best. I like the stark lack of sci-fi conventions its has and the seemly random nature of who survives. I found Aliens to be too much of a pop-corn movie, too much cowboy and too little thought. I can appreciate what Aliens 3 does, but I still enjoy the creep some...

No Right Answer: Best Fast Food

There is only one answer, the best food is food that is fast, but never 'fast food'. If you go to a chain restaurant you are by definition a cretin and of moron level intelligence. Eat food, not chemically treated meat, grain and diary 'product'.
