Welcome back to the Escapist Shamus!
Is it bad that while reading this I had the urge to play this game just to experience the madness for myself? I fear I may be a crazy masochist after all...
That isn't what the Treatise34 extract above says. It merely says that the service provider must "expeditiously remove or block access to the allegedly-infringing material". Can you point to a part of the DMCA or related law which says that the service provider has to assist with monetizing the...
Exactly. It would be very easy to solve the worst aspects of the system by keeping the ad revenue reserved until one party has won the dispute. YouTube would get an extra 30 days of holding the money so there is even a small cashflow win for them. It is puzzling that they haven't done this and...
Ah, Total Annihilation. A work of genius. A bit too heavy on micro to be the perfect thinking man's RTS but it still had screeds more real strategy to it than any other RTS of its game. It wasn't until Kohan came out that there was a better strategic RTS.
I suspect you could get the exact same results by not even mentioning adaptive AI changes. Just get them to play twice, then after the second time ask them what was better about the second map. There will obviously be differences between two random maps, you're effectively just getting the...
I have a 10 year old son playing Spore right now and he loves it. I can see the game is probably a bit shallow for experienced gamers, potentially for adults in general, but it seems a truly great game for children.
Well said Shamus.
I agree with Bad Jim that PC gaming is a large part of what maintains Windows' dominance. The main reason I don't use Linux or OSX is that most of the games I want to play don't work there and dual boot rather defeats the purpose in switching.
I despise the way the industry is heading, this is just one of many, many examples. It is annoying for anyone who values their time and particularly sad how much the whole model preys on the 'whales' who don't have enough self control to avoid spending way too much money.
Unfortunately a...
A reasonable point. But you really need to contrast it with the scenario where your Mum walks in just as you are gruesomely chopping the limbs and heads off a pack of mooks in a violent game. Is your Mum going to be any more impressed? OK, the answer to that obviously depends on who your mother...
LOL.
It's a quandary alright. My impression is that Shamus is being slightly generous in his review, either to contrast with last week's article or because as he said he can see some nice touches and hopes they are successful which will require some decent reviews.
Meanwhile RPS seem to...
I get you.
BUT there are some people out there for whom a large part of the challenge/fun/whatever of computer games is beating the game by doing all or as much of it as possible. This was fine before DLC, there was often some really hard to find stuff that people had to spend ages over to...
The US should follow Microsoft's lead with their Presidential voting system.
"You don't have to be a US citizen to vote, in fact you don't even have to be human..."
What could go wrong?
As an outsider (I live in New Zealand) it seems the US legal system has grown from an intended way for anyone to gain justice and punish wrong doing, into a massively bloated and feared monster which is effectively a rather large tax on your entire country, in the form of all the lawyers and...
