Since launching 20 years ago in December 1994, what's your favorite PlayStation memory so far?

The longest gaming marathon I've ever done was playing FFVII for 13 hours with my best friend. The PS2 was "my" console, enabling most of my all-time favorite games, and I'm happy to have a PS4 after XBoxing it up for many years in between. Hang in there, Sony.

    Assassin's Creed

Caveat: Unity is the only AC game I've played myself; the others I've all backseat-driven with a friend. That said, I think Black Flag is easily the best of the recent games. They "fixed" the ship-to-ship combat, which makes the open sea stuff incredibly fun and immersive. It's a great pirate...

Worst disappointment you experinced when you were a kid.

Maybe not the worst, but certainly one I remember vividly... One year, my mom surprised me with the second-gen iPod I'd been wanting for my birthday: the pearly white one with the round scroll area, before touch-sensitivity was nearly as common. It was the first music player I ever had, and I...

    Turn Down for WAT

Turn down for reasonable, polite requests. Is it really such a dying art?

Dear old nerds, what were the old days like?

My main "old nerd" cred is probably in the anime/manga department, since that's what I was most into when I was younger. Back in my day, very few people had internet fast enough to download movie files in any reasonable amount of time -- a single MP3 could take hours on dial-up -- so for a while...

    Go see Snowpiercer

Saw it today, and I'm wildly enthusiastic -- suspension of disbelief aside, this movie is a much-needed dose of something different. For those who are having trouble finding a place to watch it, it's actually in wide release in various digital formats (e.g. Amazon, iTunes rentals, etc.). See...

Cosplay! Have you ever done it? I want to see it!

I have cosplayed, and to you and all other aspiring cosplayers I say: Wear comfortable shoes. This cannot be stressed enough. You should also take into consideration how great your headgear, etc. will feel after an hour or two, in whatever weather you'll be walking in. A friend of mine...

    Poll: Would You Rather?

Fully charged, because that's what would matter in an emergency. I'd rather be assured access to a phone with some features (calling, texting, games) than have a phone with effectively unlimited data... that I couldn't take advantage of because the battery was dying. I definitely don't take much...

Vocation or Avocation in Post Secondary Education

Yes, because more knowledge about ANY topic has value, and because people benefit in a lot of other ways from being permitted to follow their passions. It's even good for society-- would you rather have a doctor who was exhausted/bored/miserable or a doctor who genuinely believes in what she's...

Easily solved Plotholes that annoy the hell out of you

The pilot episode of The Strain reminded me, but in general I hate watching someone get killed while being recorded... and not say ANYTHING about the identity or nature of their demise! You're on tape; the whole entire point of recording an autopsy is to provide a record of what you find...

I Think I've Reached A Boiling Point When It Comes To Social Justice

How awful-- I apologize. I don't know what happened, but I have edited my post to accurately reflect the source of the quote.

I Think I've Reached A Boiling Point When It Comes To Social Justice

I think you meant Womyn's Studies? ;) I'm quoting this post because I think it exemplifies one of the largest problems with the various internet social justice movements (men's, women's, etc.) -- ultimately, almost every argument I've encountered has come down to a fight over who has it...

Soon I'll be in New York; what do I do?

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Union Square and Forbidden Planet, a huge comic book & merch store located very nearby the aforementioned Strand bookstore. There's also Midtown Comics near Times Square. If you happen to catch the city on a less-chilly day, the Bronx Zoo and Central Park...

So, I work with an ex-porn actress...

Not even a little bit. The crime is stealing the photos and distributing them; what people do in their own homes with their own tech is their business. Sadly, you're not wrong that that's the only way to be safe, but let's at least put the blame where it belongs and not shame people for...
