Steam Machine is up for preorder

Well, yeah, I know- that's why I was so curious to see if that would appeal to enough people to sell and make an impact. (Other than the "mouse and kb" part, which seems anathema to "living room.") and why it's a shame we'll never see if it proves out. At least not in the near future. Of course...

Steam Machine is up for preorder

I really with this thing could have come out at its originally intended price (now believed to be $750). Opinions are strong and divided about the interest in PC gaming from console players and this could have been a good data point. Especially with XBox imploding, I would have loved to look...

    What are you currently playing?

If that's the 2D one from last year, I played the demo and found the platform + combat to be a bit much. That's ok, I've never gelled with any NG game.

    What are you currently playing?

Yes... well, at the time (2018) I had more time and patience. BB's visuals, sound, and themes were so IT that it was the game that finally hooked me into FromSoftware's whole... thing. That was followed by all the others, especially Sekiro. So yeah if a game is really great I will for sure push...

The Adventures of Elliott (demo) A game I heard about while listening to the various gaming pods/streams I listen to. It's a cutesy pixel art adventure, with the overhead style of mostly melee combat. Overworld map, dungeons, companion character. The demo is available on all platforms (I...

Project Hailr Mary 8/10 Ryan in Gosling... in spaaaaacceee. Pitch: if you like the Martian.... ('cause same writer. It's another movie about a smart dude stuck in space trying to survive). But this one ups the stakes because he's also trying to save humanity and a little alien friend. Ryan...

Your video game hot take(s) thread

Yeah, there's this weird glow-up of Asian devs dipping their toes in "Western" style games, or AAA games, or whatever. Black Myth Wukong similarly had this annoying fan base. But at least with that game, some of the enthusiasm came from actual China and East Asia so I'm not complaining about...

Not "even though," but also because the character has a bland personality. Notice how their current IRL heroes, starting with Trump, are just so uncool and gross and stupid and lame. Seeing a boring white dude in charge- that makes them comfortable.

Stellar Balde and Crimson Desert are ruined for me because of chuds. I can never play them. Yes, it's "political." Sorry not sorry, that's not my fault. It's the fact that these have become right-wing asshole signifiers. Every on-line space talking about potential games of the years or reviews...

Most hidden achievements are just achievements for progressing the critical path. One good reason to hide them is that they can have spoiler-y names. And it's kinda fun to see them revealed when they pop. But for the ones that are to do some combat thing in a particular way, yeah those should...

Spider Noir 7/10 Nicolas Cage is Spiderman who is also a private investigator in the 1930s, but it's all just an excuse to do film noir pastiche/satire. I am a fan of Cage which was enough for me to watch it, and this show is getting a lot of positive reception. My reaction will be that of a...

I just learned that Game Fly is still around. Game Fly! Oh man, I used to use that. When I come back from my vacation next month I'm gonna join and use it. Lately I see a lot of games where I'm like "I want to play that but not at $70." Their cheapest subscription model is $13.50/mo for one...

My point wasn't that MS were the good guys or some kewl gamurs. My point was that once, they may have seen Xbox as more of a loss-leader branding exercise. Hence my Apple and Amazon comparison. All these companies can eat my shit.

I just keep thinking this as XBOX is putting on his clusterf*** business show: When asked why Microsoft was creating XBox and getting into gaming, then-CEO said "because it's cool." There was this sense that Microsoft was playing with house money. Like Apple and Amazon now with TV and movies...
