Sound off (Issue 54): Favorite Space Game

Escape Velocity for me, I grew up on that game on my PowerPC Mac... God, I loved that thing. I can remember sitting there for hours at night, late into the night running from pirates, and getting absolutely decimated in Strict Mode.. .Such a great game.

    53: Kill Your Darlings

Why are we only focusing on the avatar taking the damage? Why not have it be a haze? If we're talking an FPS, or an Action-RPG (A la Oblivion), why not start hazing the screen... Giving a pale white fog to the distance when you're minorly hurt, turn it pinker and pinker until it's red and...

    In Memory of One_Of_47

Thank you very much Fletcher, I hope all the Escapists take a moment to bow their heads and even though the name of the magazine harkens unto the Escapism that we all give into... I hope it doesn't keep us from truly opening our empathy and feelings to this family. There are other families...

    In Memory of One_Of_47

We exist in this wonderful bubble of the internet. The communities we build, and insulate ourselves in are ways to escape the callouse hand of our day to day life. Sometimes, we search for amusement, other-times we counter with arguements... I didn't know this person, but I know the feeling...

    Too many notes?

I am pretty sure there is a SaGa game for the PS1... I just finished both the SaGa games for the PS2, and man... Let me tell you, they are fun and time consuming.

    53: Kill Your Darlings

DOS - That's not true at all. You can relate with all in-game information, the effects of ones decision. There doesn't need to be stat's to make something strategic. You can get across weaknesses and strengths, approaches and balances by making *In-Game* remarks. "The school of (Blank) is...

    53: Kill Your Darlings

I'm with Bob-Arctor here, I want something like that. No Stat's, if I wanted to crunch Stat's I'd DM a D&D Game. I want RPG's to be less about stat choosing, and more about choosing spells/swords/styles/etc

    Too many notes?

Incommunicado -- Have you played any of the SaGa games? I recently played The Romancing SaGa and it is by far one of the most immersive of the current SaGa games. I really enjoyed it, there is an open feel to it, but the story is *very* deep. The Digital Devil Saga (The First one, the...

    Too many notes?

I know exactly what you mean, when it gets like that I tend to focus on the game I've had the longest but either haven't beaten and/or haven't gotten everything for. (I'll pop it in, and play it, but if I don't get deeply involved pretty quickly (half hour or so) I just migrate on.) It's the...

    Where's Lester Bangs?

I don't think people just having a general dislike of him qualifies him as a gonzo journalist :D Or I'd be the next Hunter S. Thompson! (Without the Gun fetish, give me swords and knives all the way!) He's pretty decent, he has an immersive style of writing that involves him. But, there is...

    53: The New Gaming Society

All the more Reason to move to Canada or the West Coast... Although, from Fletchers description I might like Broadway.

    Where's Lester Bangs?

The problem with saying there *could* be a Lester Bangs of VideoGames, is giving to much relevance to gaming as it stands. Video Games aren't a medium of expression/art in the same way that T.V./Movie/Comics/Etc are... Yet. For there to be a Lester Bangs of Video Games, we'd have to have...

    Buying Into DS Lite

I'm with Bongo here, where is the variety? I can't play the DS Lite (Massive Hands) so it doesn't matter, but I still like to see the pretties.

Escapist Readers take on table top in a digital age.

I agree Archon. I think that is one of the crippling parts of Table Top, is there has to be the Leader of the group. There has to be the one who desires to run the game, and does not half ass it because HE wants to be a player. This is why I am curious to see if anyone has any...

Escapist Readers take on table top in a digital age.

But, it creates a block. I don't think it is a bad thing as long as there is still a social environment face to face for gamers and people who are all too often more than a little shy. What we have now, is a game and culture that encourages you to hide. I think the problem with the MMO age...
