Best Series of Comic Books You've Ever Read

Oh my Gods. Finally. Somebody else who's read Cerebus! It took me years to (find and) read the complete series, and yeah, it's my all-time favorite comic. My runners-up are, in no particular order: Paperinik New Adventures. A Marvel-style superhero SF comic book from Italy. Maybe the best...

    Book Suggestion?

Yeah, the manga is good. Finding a good English translation is hard--the official one changes the names, and the scanlations are near-unreadable at times.

    Book Suggestion?

I'd recommend the Black Widowers stories by Isaac Asimov. (Yep, the SF guy. Nope, there's nothing science fiction about these stories at all.) I try to read one of them every week, and you usually get twelve per collection. The first book is called Tales of the Black Widowers.

ok, i have to rant somewhere, so here it is...

One thing I've read helps at least a bit is to remind yourself that it's good to be free of cigarettes, and that smoking again would make your life worse, not better. The problem with trying to quit using will-power is that nobody's got infinite willpower, and it makes it seem as if cigarettes...

Anyone watching the Netflix series Hilda

I'm watching it too. I read the graphic novels too (except for the latest one; my library didn't have it), and while I prefer them a bit, the Netflix show is still tons of fun. Also: major kudos to them for giving a character a genuine Swedish accent and not the sorta Scottish one that...

Can you Separate your Perceptions or Sensibilities to Enjoy Something?

Sure I can. I understand that the job of a story is to be well-told artistically, and that I can't go around claiming that the only good writers are the ones who share my beliefs.

The critics are out of touch...except when they're not

Look, here's how it is: The only members of the public who go to watch a movie are the ones who expect that they'll enjoy the flick. If the only critics who watched Venom were the ones who expected to enjoy it, I can assure you that the critics, too, would have given it a higher average score.

What'd you get for Prime Day?

I boycott Amazon. So I got myself a big fat box of zilch, with some nada sprinkled on top.

Things you used to love that you now hate

Stereotypical mainstream manga. I'll still read it if it's well-done enough, but I won't be automatically interested like when I was in my teens. After reading over 4,000 manga books, I can easily tell when the official guidelines of Shonen Jump (or whatever magazine the manga's serialized in)...

Anime Supremacy 4/5 This was a good one! The novel follows three women who work with anime--one producer, one director and one animator. Though I say "novel," it's more like three novellas, one for each protagonist, plus a short epilogue. All the characters were interesting and colorful...

    PRANKS! Let's hear 'em!!

It might not be a prank according to the dictionary definition, but it's the best I had at the moment.

The Kalevala 5/5 As you know, this book is written in trochaic tetrameter; therefore, I will be reviewing it that way. It just seems fitting. This might be my favorite epic; well, Paradise Lost excepted. I don't mean the most well-written (though it's certainly well-written); what I...

    PRANKS! Let's hear 'em!!

April 1st, my brother and I woke our computer-illiterate mom up and informed her that "the computer's been gigabyted! You need to come and take a look at it!" Once she was at the computer, we laughed and informed her that the computer had not, in fact, been gigabyted.

Anyone here a fan of the Conan the Barbarian universe?

My only experience with Conan the Barber is the collected edition of all Howard's original Conan stories that I've owned since I was 18. Never watched the movie or read the comics, but I recommend those stories very highly. I almost never read fantasy, but a good book is a good book.

The defenders 2 not on the cards.

This is a very good plot, and I'd be honestly delighted to watch it. The villain needs to win now and then to remain a credible threat. (It's "Fisk," by the way, but anyway, excellent plot idea.)
