To be honest I thought that the avatars were the changed by those who got permabanned as a sort of a cool little protest club. I found it funny and I liked it.

Bad Company 1 still has one of my favorite campaigns of all time. And I thought the multiplayer was fun, but I didn't play it that much.

I have! So I can say that it's a great choice, although it might seem rather difficult.
OT: As for my recommendation, I say Skyrim. Now I know that may seem odd, but I know a lot of 'casual' gamers who love Skryim.

But what hurts me the most in is Spectacular Spiderman. It was such a good show, and it only got two seasons, and it was so obvious that they had many more great seasons planned.
You can play Deus Ex: Human Revolution via stealth, finding alternative routes, hacking, and persuasion. It may not fit your bill perfectly, but I think it does a pretty nice job.
