"Smart" movies you think are dumb

    Not even The Elephant Man?

Poll: What do you call your parents?

I call my dad, "daddy" most of the time. I'm a daddy's girl and what started out as irony soon became the norm. My mum I deviate between "mum" and "mummy" depending on whether I'm discussing her or talking to her, and what we're talking about.

    Shallowness Abounds

I like tall, lithe men. The majority of the men I find myself instantly attracted to have dark hair, blue/grey eyes, prominent cheekbones (not however, Benedict Cumberbatch) and large-ish noses. However, if a man holds himself in a certain way, with confidence, I don't particularly notice their...

    Cheating in relationships

I've cheated and been cheated on, and in response to this question: That's all anyone I don't know personally needs to know.

    Your Mother

My mum's in hospital right now recovering from surgery to remove, hopefully all of the remaining, cancer. It's the third major surgery she's had in three months and to top it all I'm moving in two days and won't be able to see her as often. Hoping she gets home before I leave (she has an EDD of...

    Favorite Robin Williams movie

Good Will Hunting is my favourite film with Robin Williams in it, closely followed by Dead Poets Society. My favourite Robin Williams film (as in film in which he was the star), though, has got to be Aladdin. But he was best as Mork in Happy Days/Mork and Mindy.

Something that I never realized about the coveted "nerdy girl(friend)"....

I find this kind of offensive to be honest. Why would it be worse for women? I went to an all girl's school where bullying was, it's safe to say, the norm and while I did experience bullying, I wouldn't say it was any worse than what a guy might go through. The bullying was perhaps...

What do you think about looters?

It's not an American thing. The 2011 London riots turned to mass looting. I live in London so got to watch it happen, but the looting was really the least concern, people died during those riots.

How do you argue that you're not homophobic/racist/etc?

Don't be homophobic or racist. Ta dah! If you're accused of bigotry when you know in your heart you are not a bigot, why does it matter? If you start to doubt yourself, maybe that's a sign you could work on a few deep seated prejudices? Sometimes when you're accused of racism or homophobia...

    Sushi and you

I can't remember when I first tried sushi, but it was at least 15 years ago. I didn't try decent sushi/sashimi until I was around 20, however and uggghhh the difference. Nowadays I will eat sushi at least a couple of times a month. I'd eat it every day if it weren't so expensive. I'm lucky...

Physical attraction: Some things I've noticed

I can't speak for 8BitOwl as her feelings are her own, but as another woman who has felt threatened in similar situations, I'd like to try and explain how my thought processes work. If I am alone and particularly vulnerable (empty train carriage, dark street, cornered in a pub etc.) I find...

Physical attraction: Some things I've noticed

While I see what you are trying to say, the way you've phrased it is ridiculous. No, the image of beauty that the media presents is not going to appeal to everyone but you're missing the point on why "certain feminists, fat men and women and some skinny girls" find the ideals presented...

    Got any good convention stories?

I used to attend the London Film and Comic Con regularly, but I have't been in a couple of years now. It's ok, the stalls are a little lacklustre and none of the talks ever interested me, but the celebrity guests have always been pretty good. I've met John Hurt, Charles Dance, Richard Briers...

Physical attraction: Some things I've noticed

I didn't think I said they absolutely were identical, did I? I certainly meant to be subjective, else my point about everyone being attractive to someone wouldn't make any sense. I suppose it would be arrogant to think your opinion of attractiveness is the be all, end all, but that is...

Physical attraction: Some things I've noticed

I do find it odd. I find any idea of a "type" odd, I understand finding one person attractive and then people of similar looks attractive by familiarity, but never venturing outside of that same particular set of features I find to be bizarre and to my eye, the three women in the OP have very...
