People Make Games, Not Development Studios

There are many examples of this, even in the old days. Phantasy Star 3, although made by SEGA just like the previous two games in the series, was done by a completely different team, and it shows. PS3 is considered the black sheep of the series (it's really not that bad). Phantasy Star 4 was...

Titanfall Review - Mechs and the City

I don't usually play multiplayer shooters, but I'm a sucker for sci-fi settings and mechs, so I bought it (which is rare, I only buy at launch about 1 game per year). The launch was smooth and I'm not experiencing bugs. It's really fun even though I suck at it, but I agree it could use more...

    8 Underrated Hearthstone Cards

Have you looked at HEX: The Shards of Fate? Right now it's in development (alpha stage, rough around the edges), but if they manage to do everything more or less as promised (there's a distance between the Kickstarter excitement and the final product) it will be a serious contender for people...

    BioWare Gets a New Boss

I wonder if they chose a guy from eSports because it means he's probably already used to death threats and all the aggressive negativity BioWare has been getting? In the Polygon piece about criticism and negativity from gamers, Zeschuk basically admitted that it was part of the reason for him...

Mighty No. 9 Changes Focus To Consoles

Probably not. But then again, 900k would not be enough for the game as proposed. They state on the KS page that they're investing their own money into it too.

Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 Expansion Preview

I hope the challenges are better, for me they're usually one of the best part of the duels games but most of the 2014 challenges are too easy.

World of Warcraft Trading Card Game Comes to an End

Cryptozoic (the people that did the WoW TCG) is creating a new digital MMOTCG called HEX that is a deeper TCG like WoWTCG. Actually HEX is a lot like Magic with a bunch of "digital" mechanics on top (mechanics that would be hard to get working on a physical card game). Cryptozoic ran a very...

    Immorally making $5,000

Take the card and use it to make a "friendship" greeting card (paint & write over it), then send it back to him :)

    Broken Age Needs More Money

I can't say for sure but I understand this will come as a free update to the game on Steam. This means that no matter how you have acquired it (as a backer or via Early Access), you will get the second part for free. Maybe it'll be different but it doesn't seem to be.

    Broken Age Needs More Money

It's the reporting. Escapist tends to be a bit more sensationalist these days with headlines and such, "Broken Age Needs More Money" gives the idea that somehow people will have to pay more for the game they already paid for. This very thread shows how many people were misled by this. Now...

    Broken Age Needs More Money

What I understand is that people who get Part 1 will get Part 2 for free as a later update. It says so in his message to backers: So no one will pay twice, actually.

    Broken Age Needs More Money

First, no one will pay for the same game twice. Backers will receive the full game. Second, the game now in development is much bigger than it would be with the original 300k amount (100k was for the documentary). I'm sure if they had released a 300k flash game and pocketed the rest of the...

    Broken Age Needs More Money

Stuff like this happens all the time with software projects. The thing is that we never saw it happening before our eyes because publishers simply said to the press "release date for game X is delayed to date Y" and everyone accepts that. But no one really knows why the delay. In such a...

Double Fine's Massive Chalice Kickstarter Comes to a Close

It could get more money, but I guess this is due to not being a nostalgic KS and instead trying for something new. It's also similar do Double Fine Adventure but different from most other Kickstarters in that there's no game to show yet, not even a prototype, because part of the deal is to get...
