Titanfall Review - Mechs and the City

Well, there's always tearing when your FPS output doesn't match your screen's refresh rate, no matter the game. V-sync does help there but it also reduces your frame rate. Same here. This game wasn't even on my radar before I signed up for the "open" PC-beta. Now I can't wait for it to be...

Titanfall Review - Mechs and the City

Don't forget to check if your hardware is even able to handle newer Windows versions. Microsoft offers apps that let you see if your system can run Windows 7 or 8. I tried installing 8 on an ancient PC I still had lying around and wasn't able to get past the formatting. Should have checked it...

Titanfall Review - Mechs and the City

You don't need a DVD drive. You could make a bootable USB stick with the Windows ISO on it. Microsoft has released all the ISOs online. Just make sure you have a 64 bit compatible CPU and a valid 64 bit license. Edit: I'd also like to add that I'm not aware of any reason why this method...

Update: Fan "Fixes" Mass Effect 3 Ending With A 539-Page Rewrite

Well, no. I'm not going to tell you what the right way is because I don't think there is a right way. That's why I put wrong in quotation marks. My point wasn't about whether ME is enjoyable or not, because that indeed comes down to personal preferences. I also never criticized you or anyone...

Update: Fan "Fixes" Mass Effect 3 Ending With A 539-Page Rewrite

It's alright to like ME. That doesn't make you or the people you mentioned above stupid. All it does is indicate that you either didn't give it much thought, have very low standards and/or the "wrong" priorities regarding its objective quality. And I do believe there is such a thing. Giant...

Update: Fan "Fixes" Mass Effect 3 Ending With A 539-Page Rewrite

But what if the thing you like really is bad (without being funny bad)? I believe that there are certain standards that pieces of entertainment have to meet before you can call them good. Whether you enjoy them or not is a completely different issue. In my case, stories with too many serious...

Update: Fan "Fixes" Mass Effect 3 Ending With A 539-Page Rewrite

That's what the whole series is in my mind; a very disappointing what-could-have-been. But I kept playing because there were things I genuinely liked. Who knows, maybe they'll fare better with ME 4. I hope they just reboot the entire thing and do it properly this time around. Although given...

Update: Fan "Fixes" Mass Effect 3 Ending With A 539-Page Rewrite

I'm afraid I didn't express my thoughts well enough. I actually agree with you 100%. The revelations in the first game were indeed intriguing. The one about seeding technology so that we would develop along a predetermined path is a great idea. My problem with the Reapers is that the entire...

Update: Fan "Fixes" Mass Effect 3 Ending With A 539-Page Rewrite

Pretty much this. While I appreciate the author's passion and the effort they put into this, I don't think Mass Effect is fixable. The central plot and the whole premise of the Reapers were always awful. The ending was just the rotten cherry on top of it. There isn't much to get, though. And...

Cliches and Tropes In Movies That Really Annoy You

The Idiot Ball/Plot It's almost impossible for me to take a story seriously if it relies on these tropes. One offender that comes to mind is Mass Effect. The series couldn't exist in its current form if the Reapers didn't carry Idiot Balls the size of VY Canis Majoris with them. Mr...

Major Changes In Youtube Involving Let's Players

Well, as others have pointed out, IPs are a whole 'nother beast. Video games, as I see it, are a much more sensory experience than board games (if that makes sense). So the comparison doesn't really sit well with me. But I don't know enough about this to form an informed opinion anyway. And...

Major Changes In Youtube Involving Let's Players

I think you're right. Maybe this whole thing will end up being a turning point for EULAs as we know them.

Major Changes In Youtube Involving Let's Players

I just downloaded Half Life: Day One. It's a pre-release demo of Half Life that was released in 1998. In addition to copying it, Sierra's legal information also says you're not allowed to broadcast or do a whole lot of other things with it. How's that not a license? Just as V da Mighty Taco...

Major Changes In Youtube Involving Let's Players

I agree completely. My point was merely that games have always been sold as licenses and we've never had complete control over them. I know the EU has allowed digital copies to be resold despite what EULAS used to say. However, I'm not aware of any other rulings regarding the ownership of games.

Major Changes In Youtube Involving Let's Players

But playing a piece of music or showing a copyrighted picture on TV without permission can already get you in trouble. I've never heard of someone being sued for doing so on YouTube, they just get their accounts blocked. Doing the same for games doesn't seem far-fetched to me. That's why they...
