Sony: Casual Games Are Just "an Addictive Diversion"

We ought to define what separates a casual game from a hardcore game. When does a game suddenly rise to the lofty heights of hardcoredom? When we say something is a casual game do we mean a game that can be played in a handful of minutes? Is it a game that appears on a casual device like...

Sony: Casual Games Are Just "an Addictive Diversion"

Most 'hardcore games' (damn I hate that phrase...) are indeed just diversions. Some aren't, and it's nice to see ones that aim to be more than that. Most casual games are just diversions. Some aren't. I played Passage last night, and I could make an argument for it counting as a casual game that...

Mojang, Square Enix, EA and Others Sued For Patent Infringement

Ric Richardson doesn't own Unlioc. He is a minor shareholder. Allegedly he doesn't even own the patent that's up for dispute. He is pretty much irrelevant to this case.

Why the new Hitman is likely to suck.

Y'know...unless you can't hire those two people but would like to make a new Hitman game for the fans anyway. Hitman game with different voice actors or no Hitman game at all? Hmmm.

Is there anyone else who has problems with the controls in first person shooters?

You're just not very good at moving around in a 3D space. Do you have problems like this in 3rd person games that give you control of the camera? I guess it's just practice. I notice a lot of new players have trouble dealing with twin-sticks.

Poll: Nintendo are just toying with the gaming industry before they release The Pokemon MMO

I imagine there'd be enough Pokemon to go around. Chill on down to Route 14 and there's a dozen Skarmory dotted around. Being that, in the sort of game I'm imagining, you'd be training against wild Pokemon to grind, there'd be enough to go around. Sure there'd be a cluster-fuck at the time when...

Poll: Nintendo are just toying with the gaming industry before they release The Pokemon MMO

Ever played competitive Pokemon? It's that. Every MMO can be broken down into a list of 'perfect builds'.

Poll: Nintendo are just toying with the gaming industry before they release The Pokemon MMO

You'd probably have to play as a trainer, and one of many different classes of trainers. Different classes would be able to use new Pokemon, moves and abilities at new levels, but only if you caught them first in the wild. Powerful, legendary Pokemon would require groups to take down and...

Poll: Nintendo are just toying with the gaming industry before they release The Pokemon MMO

Everything that's happened since those GB games released all that time ago has been a mere test for Nintendo, because they know that once they release the Pokemon MMO they have won the games industry. It's not just WoW they will have toppled, but every other game in every other genre on every...

GameStop Apologizes for Deus Ex Coupon Kerfuffle

They try to undercut a competitors deal and then 'make up' by providing incentives for you to do your business at Gamespot? This isn't an apology, this is some pretty sly marketing.

What was the last Pokemon team you used?

Pokemon Online Team It's an entry shuffle team with one set-up, three walls and two Pokemon for late-game sweeping. Smeargle - Sets up rocks and spikes if possible. Hits an opponent with Spore off the bat. Milotic - Special wall with Dragon Tail for shuffling. This beast can take a +2...

Convincing my art teacher that video games are art

Ah, the Roger Ebert argument. =p Player freedom can be a hindrance if you let it, but in a scripted, linear experience the designer makes it so that player freedom is an illusion. Paths you take, objects you approach, scenery you take note of are all planned for by the designer. Good level...
