I likewise enjoyed the film for many of the (Ron Perlman) reasons that Jim (badguy from The Crow) mentioned, but the whole "it was supposed to be a comedy" has been losing traction ever since Tommy Wiseau flagrantly lied about it to try and justify The Room.

I actually thought the scene used at the very end of this video is one of the most subtle (though that's not saying much) characterizations of Jedi VS Sith. They both fight, but when the fighting dies down, the Jedi sits and begins to meditate to catch a moment while the Sith paces and snarls.

It's actually pretty hilarious that comic books (even and especially mainstream superhero ones) are moving away from the ridiculous "look at my good stuff" costumes for their female heroes while videogames charge RIGHT on forward.

I absolutely LOVE Mortal Kombat the Movie for...PRETTY much all the reasons Jim said here: it's a videogame movie that isn't ashamed of its roots. And at its core: it's a competent supernatural kung-fu movie. What the hell ELSE would it need to be?
