For starters, everyone I know who bought one still has a working PS2.
It's backward compatibility means it took everything from the PS1 as it's own, and added in the immense library of games produced for it.

I don't think I've ever seen anybody put it better.
FF7 came out of nowhere, was hailed as the greatest achievement of modern games, had so much hype built around it and has come to represent some kind of holy grail.
Now I love the game, it's still my favourite game of all time and I replay it...
I'd take Lightning and Snow from FFXIII and put them in... well, anywhere else to be honest.
Then I'd be able to finally play the game all the way through.
Or, in honesty, I'd love to see the good guys from FFVII as a pirate crew in One Piece.
The games I played in my early years were all Y-inverted, so I started that way.
I was starting to think I'd imagined that though as all my older gamer friends never invert and don't remember things being that way.

I think every game has to have a soundtrack that fits and enhances the experience - it really does make a difference.
As stated repeatedly above, Final Fantasy games are a really good example of this.
