I'm just a lurker, mostly. To give a proof of my long-term dedication to Escapist, you can find my name in the old PDF Escapist in Letters to the Editor (or whatever it is called). I don't post very frequently, so I don't consider myself a valued member of this community. So I don't think I'm...

I'm an old one, but I don't remember the date. Just posting to find out. EDIT: Seems I'm beating Copter by over a year. But I'm still not the oldest one I'm sure.

159: A Site To Call My Own

Just popping in to say thanks for the GWJ, it became my online home some two years ago and I still can't praise it enough.

    Dysfunctional Serial Monogamy

Well, to be honest, nobody reads game reviews either. Yes, there is a group of gamers that reads reviews, but larger group relies on metacritic score. Larger group still doesn't even look for reviews when buying games, we can call them casual gamers (and parents). Lots of mediocre to awful movie...

I Can't Buy a DS to Save My Life

I have two DSes, both Phat (the starting one, with demo of Metroid Prime Hunters) and black Lite. However, down here in Slovakia there is no shortage of both DSes and Wiis, mainly due to the fact that people down here are not really used to buying original games and piracy is a bit complicated...

The Escapist Snags 1 Million Visitors

It doesn't seem that long ago when I stumbled across the very first issue of The Escapist. Ever since then I'm looking forward to Tuesday afternoon (GMT timezone). So glad you are still alive, well and thriving.

Editor's Note: Pens, Paper and Pretzels

In case it helps, I too am a fan of the PDF format and grieve its loss. Even with the different design, PDF would just be lovely. So far the site is a bit complicated for my tastes, but I know I will embrace it quickly.

    83: Ion's Other Game

Aaaah, the sweet memories of having a whole planet as your sidekick. Or finding a rancid sock. Eddie knows.

    72: StarForce Must Die

I see a problem with the argument that says "Without copy protection the games would not sell". GalCivII is a fine counterpoint and so is Paradox Entertainment, one of my favorite companies. Sure, they produce niche hardcore strategy games, but not one of them is copy-protected. They do not even...

    Sony to eBayers: Flip This

I would disagree with your comparison of eBay resale of launch PS3s/whatever and ticket scalping. The concerts/live shows/sport events are one of a kind things - either you see them live now or never again. But if you don't buy a PS3 on launch day (and I still don't see a single rational reason...

    Nintendo DS - Game Recommendations

Meteos is great, in combination with its music it has that great zen feeling. Once you "become one" with the game, it becomes a pure joy. I also second Phoenix Wright, Kirby and Advance Wars DS. Although most of the time of my DS went into Final Fantasy Tactics Advance:)

Has anyone else picked up Okami?

Eurogamer says release date in Europe for Okami is February 2007, but it is still to be confirmed.

Waiting for BSG: Digital Distribution Ups and Downs

A part of the reason why they do not have enough support is that they are restricted to the US only. If I had the chance I would subscribe immediately, but they currently do not want my money. A loss for me and a loss for them.

    65: "Fun" is a Four-Letter Word

I would argue that Joyce and Pynchon actually ARE fun. Try reading some passages in Ulysses aloud, they are full of humor, especially the ones with Leopold Bloom. And Crying of Lot 49 is quite a comedy in itself. But I guess it only goes to show that the idea of fun differs from person to...

    Behind the Veil: Art Criticism

There is a lot of talk around the "Are videogames art?" question. I think the answer is, just like in any other media, that some of them are. Not all movies are art, not all paintings are art, neither are all books. While I quite agree with the definition that art creates emotional response, I...
