I'd recommend just about any of the namco tales series, Xenoblade too (game blew my mind about 4 times in the last 20 minutes) though another great series is Star Ocean. Valkyria Chronicles is great if your into tactical jrpgs and it's art style is really neat. Also a bit left field is the game...
