Retro Studios is still very much alive. I'd add Paragon Studios to the list, partially to get City of Heroes back but also to see what else they were cooking up before they were unceremoniously closed by NCsoft.

City of Heroes was the game I never got bored of playing. Played for 6 years, had 61 characters across 4 servers (mostly Defiant) with 14 max level characters. It was difficult to get bored as there were so many potential combinations of powers and costumes to make pretty much any type of hero...

Another issue; with the prevalence of day one patches it's entirely possible that circumventing DRM won't be enough in future if you can't get the patches or re-engineer the game to overcome major bugs.

Games are the perfect medium for 'show, don't tell', yet the opportunity is routinely squandered. We need games to go back to something akin to Half-Life, where you never lose control over the playable character.

While exact resolutions and FPS don't concern me so long as I have a consistent, smooth game play experience with a nice aesthetic, I see no real excuse for Next-Gen systems not doing 1080p. The Wii U does it happily, so why shouldn't XB1 and PS4?
