    Review Scores are Shit

I remember reading A.O. Scott's description of what a good critic is. It's really about starting a conversation with the reader, and being critic is being someone with a deep, abiding awareness of the medium they are critiquing and thus able to approach and describe their experiences succinctly...

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes - Earth-Shattering Kaboom

This is now the game that has sold me on VR possibilities. I like how instead of using VR for its most obvious effect, immersion, they are playing on the social dynamic between the "support" and "defuser." Here's to seeing more integration between VR and tabletop games.

Judging By The Cover: Fant4stic - From the Studio that Brought You...

Good for the Escapist. There's been a dearth of quality video content on the site lately, and this series is hysterically funny.

Judging By The Cover: Batman: Arkham Knight - Just Need To Find It First

This series is hysterical. I hope it gets kept around.

    Unpopular Opinions

Gamer culture is incredibly self-absorbed, immature, and ill-prepared to handle any kind of cultural criticism. The fact that gamer forums such as escapist are still talking about Anita Sarkeesian, "SJW's", and "feminist propaganda" depresses me to no end. My year away from video games to just...

Games you refuse to buy because dlc

Destiny. I'm really not interested in paying 50-60 dollars for the base game and then every expansion on top of it. Shame too, because I found the beta an absolute blast to play.

The Surge in LGBT rainbow characters - AKA: The New Demographic and why its happening.

Holy shit, the escapist forums are filled with weirdos now. One new character is openly gay and everyone is losing their minds and crying of "pandering." One gay character. One, in a cast of assumedly heterosexuals. As straight males gamers, we have the entire cast of female Mortal Kombat...

Any good game/general geek sites that dont moan about sexism/racism/homophobia?

You basically want to talk about cultural products without talking about culture. I really don't get you people.

Star Wars' "Black Stormtrooper" to Critics: "Get Used to it"

Anyone mad about this needs to get over their politics. The whole "undermining Nazi allegory" is bunk, coming from nerds who can't project their fantasies on African American actors. It's Star Wars, it's fantasy.

Obsessed Fan Cupid Stalks Arrow in "Draw Back Your Bow"

I just have to point this out. The title of the episode is a reference to this Sam Cooke song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxBodG6IV4E Soul, man. This guy's got it.

Marvel Announces New Civil War Series

I love how all of my friends who haven't read the comics hear this and go, "Wow! So cool!" while everyone else who has actually read Civil War just groans.

Escape to the Movies: The Maze Runner - Where's a Minotaur When You Need One?

I would have loved to see a review of The Guest. A genuinely funny pastiche of 80's thrillers, I heartily recommend it to anyone if it's playing in a theater near you.

No Right Answer: Attack on Attack on Titan

"Not all anime is bad, just statistically, but I've never seen one that is [good]." Dan has pretty much summed up my opinion of anime completely.

Escapist Podcast - Tabletop: 010: Best Games At Gen Con 2014 Cast

I just bought me a copy of the second edition of Cash and Guns, but the game I'm looking foward most to playing is the X-Com boardgame. Realtime co-op games like Space Alert is really big in my gaming group so X-Com will fit the bill nicely.

4 Reasons Why The Mass Effect 3 Debate Refuses to Die

THIS Bioware sold ME as a game that would react and branch off to your decisions. Choosing the fate of the Rachni, Council, and Collector Base were agonizing decisions, but all those choices amounted to was cosmetic dialogue and a different number on the galactic conflict track. It was...
