$100 million...on what marketing? They got the TGA slot that was apparently a surprise to the team as much as anyone, so I doubt they paid all that much for that...and then the game was undermarketed if anything because the game was meant to be a quiet release before that slot.
I'm definitely not trying to suggest they spent $100 million on advertising!

I'm just trying to suggest how much they could spend on a 100-strong dev team for 4 years. $100 million on development sounds like something they could easily have spent, and why not in the $150 million region if they went large? Then the $200 million total budget estimate could be a heavy overestimate, etc.

I think the question I do have at the end of it is if the people who made the game (the rank and file, not the top honcho), regret taking the job? I;m sure plenty of them saw the writing on the wall, I assume most follow video game news and such. Did they just think that maybe they'd be lucky and it would take off? Or where they thinking they'd just cash the check so long as they kept coming? Where they desperately trying to line up something else the entire time?

A mixture of column A, B, C, and some D.
